Forgive me for being "that guy" but I have to get this off my chest. What is up with the costume for Vice Admiral Holdo. I repeat, VICE ADMIRAL. Why is she dressed like this: Why couldn't they give her something that vaguely resembled a military uniform? Or made her character a political figure instead? Did this bug anyone else or am I just being pedantic.

Did this bug anyone else or am I just being pedantic. Ugh! Because Disney is so visceral without depth when comes to SW. Not to mention their agendas. Vice Admiral Holdo's costume was sort of mauve purple (ANH) Princess Leia. It gave off a regal princess vibe. And if you know anything about Disney you know that they eat, sleep, and breathe warrior princesses. But you can't very well have Holdo be a real princess because she's got to pilot that ship on a suicide mission. And she's got to be the one to come up with the military strategy for their plan to escape and get to Crait. Hence, she's an admiral that dresses like a princess. (Footnote: on another thread you talked about how Finn and Rose's plan was unnecessary. I'm going to "kill two birds with one stone". They didn't need Holdo in the first place. The backstory of Admiral Ackbar shows he was smart enough to come up with Holdo's plan. And Ackbar sure wouldn't have withheld his plans from his own people because of some personal beef. And if you do the suicide mission from the start Rey and Rose don't have to leave to get a code breaker to shut down the tracker on the enemy ship).

Same reason Leia was a General but dressed more like a Gas Station Attendant.

Same reason Leia was a General but dressed more like a Gas Station Attendant. I thought she looked a little better in TLJ, but...

I actually thought part of it was to make people see her a certain way. I think she wanted people to under-estimate her, to think her just a girl in a pretty dress. It made people be on an uneven keel with her, such as when Poe sees her and is all, "That's Holdo, the war hero!" instead of just nodding and walking up to her with his plan/questions. For her it seemed as though she wanted people to take her for more of a politician than a fighter, and perhaps she had been like Leia- she started a Soldier in the trenches and now had to be a leader that was both political & military. Holdo and Leia had probably both gone to other planets lobbying for more assistance, over the past couple years. She may have just come from that kind of thing and simply not have had the time, luggage, or inclination to go to her room and change into her more military or everyday clothes. Also, STAR WARS has had other leaders who didn't dress like military leaders. Mon Matha had that white get up, which I assume is a leftover from the pre-CLONE WARS era. Han was a ranking officer and he wore the same clothes he did before he joined up. I think it is just a personal comfort thing, as well as a supplies issue. If you've got clothes that you are comfortable in and don't have holes/ripped seams, then why waste a uniform? And it is a relatively small military, not like everyone doesn't know the leadership on sight, with or without uniforms, rank indicators, or any sort of insignia on them.

I thought it strange, considering both because I thought costuming was otherwise a major strength of this movie, and, as you just said, she's a vice admiral.
But the whole character was mystifying. Her very existence, her odd way of handling command strategy. All of it.

I don’t think it looks out of place. They’re near the end of their existence and military formalities aren’t the priority. It’s just a bad design. Probably the hair is the last straw. It’s her purple head which looks so wrong.

But we are not talking books i get it. I thought she was very good.

If enough people move one maybe they change things to the way you like it and come back.

Not very smart if I waste my money like that. especially in stuff you think are trash You misunderstood me. I bought the books before I watched the wreck that was TLJ and finally realized that Disney Wars isn't for me. Then you suggested I should not be involved. Then I said, too late, I already bought the books. Then you said I could choose to not be intellectually involved. Then I made a joke about how I wouldn't be very smart if I spent the money already on the books and didn't read them, since, that's why I spent the money. Every once in a while you get a below-average pizza, but you still eat that whole damn pie because throwing it out would be wasteful.

A masochist? No. An amateur book collector? Yes. I don't discard books. Besides, I've enjoyed the new canon books for the most part. And the book in question takes place before TLJ, back when the story hadn't been entirely fucked by terrible writing yet. I still like those stories.

Holdo is everywhere and she's even more annoying (for you). Also you can collect books and not read them.
