Some reported pushback: "Former culture minister Gaber Asfour said the proposal was unconstitutional, as the Egyptian constitution guarantees the freedom of belief for every citizen." thelenspost.com/en/egypt-considers-banning-atheism-to-stop-people-becoming-gay/
By the way, there's a higher percentage of atheists among gay people than among straight people. That's not surprising, but if there's any causality I'm sure it's that being gay encourages atheism rather than the other way round. Of course homosexuality encourages atheism because unlike straight children, we are forced to question the status quo. When a gay person grows up being taught, "God is great and good and loving and by the way thinks you're an abomination", that is sort of conducive to concluding that "God is bunk".

Once again, religious people trying to force others to accept their worldview; punishment for not accepting - physical harm. Humans just can't seem to evolve beyond tribalism. My final thought for the day: f*cking COEXIST, people. Live and let live. Believe (or not) and let believe (or not). It's because the religious fear losing their own religion if others are allowed to freely express their doubts. It's based on fear and nothing else. Religion is getting to the stage where it is like a cornered wild animal. I read a quote somewhere, can't remember from who, that said 'You can't convince a believer of anything with facts, because belief is not based on facts, it is based on a deep-seated need to believe.' Yes, it is based on fear of losing their beliefs; the 'belief' promises meaning to life and a blissful afterlife. Who wouldn't want to believe? Trouble is, it's not fact. I can't believe in something that has no basis in fact. That just makes living in the real world so much harder, trying to understand why suffering can exist in a world created by an all-loving god.

I like the pithy "you can't use reason to get someone out of something they didn't use reason to get into."
