She wasn’t solving every problem anyone every had and being so condescending whilst doing it.

I never found Rey annoying because I think Daisy Ridley plays her with so much charisma that it's easy to overlook her character's flaws. And by flaws I mean flaws in her writing.
But that being said the accusation of her being a Mary Sue comes reinforced by explaining her background: she is a nobody who never had any sort of training in the force. Making her abilities even more unexplained and ridiculous.
I was kind hoping that she was a former student of Luke and that was the reason she was so gifted.

But force sensitivity is something one is born with. It can’t be developed from nothing. So maybe she is just particularly strong with the force.
That doesn’t explain her apparent mechanical genius mind you.

I would say she (and Ren) were borderline bearable this time, a marked improvement in terms of writing and acting. This time there is at least a bit of struggle and failing to her and character do not automatically become her cheerleaders. Notice how the Leia-hugged-First scene is reversed by Leia now hugging Chewie but ignoring Rey when they meet again?
There are still a few instances of absurd, forced fanfic writing without proper set up and development that qualify as Mary Sue:
- Rey never sat on the Falcon turret (and does not like blasters), but with her first turret shot she can destroys 3 (three) Ties at once. She also seems to be the captain of the Falcon, with Chewie as her co-pilot (Chewie is not a dog, he should be captain after Han, why would he serve under a teenage girl he just met?). - No proper Force or saber training but yet she can fight Snoke's elite forces admirably and can lift hundreds of rocks at first try (whereas unfocused Luke failed to levitate a few despite Yoda's training) - She's a first week Padawan but in the end it's her on whose shoulders the training and further survival of the Jedi order solely rests, and Yoda and Luke seem to be delighted and at peace with that (she has the holy Jedi texts in her possession)
But the problem this time is rather that Rey is used as a senseless plot device to further plot developments, eg her idiotic decision to run away from Luke to redeem Kylo - her most hated foe - Kylo just having killed his father Han a few days ago trying to redeem Kylo. Why? Because she Force skyped with Kylo 3 times and touched his hand. Bad character writing rehashing OT character development in a few scenes that took the OT several films to develop.

They need to explain this in the next one. She's the force incarnate or something; she's just too strong right out of the gate. So much lazy writing in these movies.

She was far more likable. Her character in TFA was so cold and just kind of angry. She was much better in TLJ.
