Went to evening mass Christmas eve, my kids were singing in the choir.
The church was packed, standing room only.
That was my first act of piety, standing for the whole mass. Some people around me complained, but I remembered the Gulags and knew that standing for an hour was nothing.
Then, when the bread was becoming the body of Christ and the time came for all the other people with the padded bench in front of them to kneel, I noticed that none of us standing at the back were kneeling...
..so I made a big show of kneeling on the cold floor and clutching the pew in front of me, I looked over my shoulder at the other people standing and one fellow parent said 'You're making me feel bad' and knelt down beside me. A few others did too.
So, I hope God is happy that on Christmas I was able to shame others into a greater display of faith.
I'm like one of those ex-smokers who is suddenly the biggest asshole about smoking in the world.

Your reward shall be great, my son. Thank you. I didn't do it for praise. Like all selfless deeds, I did it anonymously.. I wore a disguise to church that night.
