Seriously, it's almost 2018 and there have been six "Spider-Man" films, yet none of them are what I would call good adaptions of the character.
When will Hollywood finally gets their heads out of their asses and finally make an honest attempt to make a decent Spider-Man film? I'm getting really tired of having to go to the 90's animated series for my Spider-Man fix.

What was wrong with Raimi's depiction of the character in 2002's Spiderman?
I'll admit the character was messed up in the 3rd installment, but I'm really not sure where, in the original film, that the Spidey that was dreamed up by Ditko and Lee wasn't captured quite well, IMHO.

Tobey Maguire was a terrible Spider-Man/Peter Parker IMO and this is coming from someone who grew up with him as Spider-Man. Peter Parker isn't supposed be a giant crybaby with speech impediment problems that can barely talk to a girl. If I was his Peter Parker in those movies, I'd be banging the living shit out of Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane. And Spider-Man is supposed to be witty and sarcastic even in dangerous situations. Tobey's Spidey never did that. The best thing about the Raimi films was the action and the villains (except for Topher Grace's bastardization of Venom). And I loved staring at Kirsten Dunst in the first two films (not the third movie, she was very plain and awful in that one). And don't get me started on Willem Defoe's awful Power Ranger suit.

There always was some wit and sarcasm in Peter, but it sure wasn't up there as strongly in the 60's and 70's as it was in the 80's and 90's. Peter was more shy and aloof early on, at least as far as my memories of then. And his alter ego was more subdued as well. But I guess we all were and all comics were. I do agree the Maguire's Spidey was absolutely vanilla compared to the Spidey that was in the comics of the day when the movie was out. Grace was indeed a horrible Venom, and Dafoe's Halloween masked Goblin suit wasn't worthy of the character. I do agree.

I don't think we've had a good Superman movie since Superman II and that was 37 years ago. That's just my opinion though.

I agree. The very first Spider feature had it's charms, but I thinks the others, including the much lauded second one, were 5 shades of mediocre.
