Anyone else think they were amazing and wish we could see more of them? They were beautiful, with such sweet faces. And I wanted to punch all those people too, when I saw the marks in their fur when Rose and Finn came into the stables. More so when I saw the kids. And I kept worrying the bad guys would shoot the Fathiers when they were escaping, I wanted them all to get free and roam without pain or captivity. I noticed people talking about the porgs and other creatures on here, but I hadn't noticed anything on the Fathiers- so I thought I'd mention them.

Seems they were specifically targeted at girls and young women, who are more likely to be fascinated by alien pony/horse-like creatures than boys or men. Accordingly, I was less than impressed with the CGI, design and scene - sorry! But boys had pod racers, so it's only fair I guess...
Maybe we see some of these Fathier creatures again in Johnsons new trilogy or a cartoon (like the current non-Rebels one geared at young girls). I have a (bad) feeling about that this whole storyline was a teaser for that trilogy.
Btw, I found it a curious that they would do the force sensitive child-slave tormented by greedy slaver working at a race track again so blatantly.

Well, I'm a girl and I absolutely LOVED the pod race and I'm digging the Fathiers, so it's all good for me. Granted, I loved the ton-tons when I first saw the original trilogy, as well as the Ewoks, Wookies, and the gunguns from the prequels. Didn't care for the porgs at all though, that noise was simply irritating and they weren't that cute to make up for it. Interesting idea, for them to want a critter that is more likely to be adored by girls/women, even the whole plot piece about them being abused and Rose freeing that last one, are very much the things you see in Young Adult fiction with a girl in the leading role. I am on the fence about the Force-using child-slave. On the one hand, I really like this idea of the downtrodden and all the poor, huddled masses types looking to the Resistance/Rebellion for hope, and wouldn't it just be awesome if a few of those people could become Jedi under Rey and Leia (before the passing of Carrie Fischer might have thrown a wrench in some of the long-term plans). I also kind of loved how, for a second, the kid's broom looked almost like it shone as a sword would, while he looked at the night sky- just on a visual, not-at-all-about-the-plot note. On the other hand- it is a little too much like Anakin, there is a touch of irritation about how the previous movies ended looking at a Skywalker (Then again, this kid could be Shmi's cousin's great-great-great-great grandchild, I doubt it, but it could happen- stranger things have been done in the movies), and part of me was just mad the kids didn't get free with the Fathiers.

For all intents and purposes it seems to have succeeded, I saw that weirdraptor - the only bona fide Brony I am aware of - said that "Last Jedi rocked". I am happy for him and his demographic.
Even the TLJ & MLP posters bear some weird resemblance, makes you wonder...

I know that they were kind of used to send an animal rights message, but I liked the creature concept. Sort of a mixture of an antelope, a race horse, and a large herbivore like an elephant. The way they fit into the story was plausible also IMO. Even if we can debate whether Rose and Finn's side trip was even necessary for the story. They were also part of the cute/adorable factor, but all things being equal I'll take the Fathiers over the Porgs any day.
