Catman has always liked the song even though it's a bit chilling.

Back in '69, I just did not care for it.

The parody in 'The Late Philip J. Fry' was quite nice.

The song mentions the future of mankind and how God is going to view where we're heading.
I think the song raises some interesting questions. In my opinion it goes a bit overboard on portraying technological advances as a bad thing, after all, there would be pluses to them too.
What are your thoughts on the song? I've got lots of thoughts relating to the song by Zager and Evans. I remember driving from Columbus to University Heights (Ohio) and hearing Year 2525 on I-71 northbound in Delaware County. It had a great beat but the lyrics weren't really profound but pretentious. Still, it's a well-remembered song from the fabulous music year of 1969, particularly the summer months. I'm not sure of the month but sometime before summer the song Israelites by Desmond Dekker and the Aces was released. Great song, reggae style. The Archies came up with Sugar, Sugar in 1969. Great song. Of course Johnny Cash had Boy Named Sue. The most wretched song of summer 1969 was Don't Wake Me Up In The Morning Michael by a piece of shit group named Peppermint Rainbow. Their music was described at the time as psychedelic, but a more accurate adjective would be shitty. Still, 1260AM radio WCOL played it constantly so it's been burned into my psyche.
I think it was 1969 (summer) when Conway Twitty had 15 Years Ago or maybe it was I Did The Best I Could. Either way it was a great song from a great singer in a great year.
By far the greatest song of 1969 was Mama Lou by Country-Western singer Penny DeHaven. Nobody else remembers Penny DeHaven but I do and I;m right to say what I did about Mama Lou. When the Zager and Evans song gets played my mind inevitably meanders to the genius of Penny DeHaven.
