Wonder Woman's Best Picture Chances Just Got A Huge BoostAlong with being met with overwhelmingly positive reviews and making over $820 million globally, Wonder Woman has earned numerous accolades since it was released in theaters last June. From being recognized by the American Film Institute to winning two Spotlights Awards from the National Board of Review, Diana of Themyscira's origin story is unquestionably one of the most well-received superhero movies of all time. Although Wonder Woman was overlooked for this year's Golden Globes, there's still a chance that it could walk away with a Best Picture nomination for the Academy Awards in a few months, and the chance has been boosted by the fact that the movie just received a Producers Guild of America nomination.
The nominees for the 29th Annual Producers Guild Awards were announced earlier today, and Wonder Woman was nominated for the "Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures" due to the work of Charles Roven, Richard Suckle, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder. Its competitors in that category are as follows: The Big Sick Call Me By Your Name Dunkirk Get Out I, Tonya Lady Bird Molly's Game The Post The Shape Of Water Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri While earning a PGA nomination by no means guarantees that Wonder Woman will receive any recognition at the Academy Awards, let alone a Best Picture nomination, it's certainly better than nothing. With up to 10 potential Best Picture nominees, Wonder Woman will certainly face a hard battle snagging one of those spots, but given not only how well the movie has performed, but its social impact as well, one would imagine it stands a better chance than a lot of other superhero movies from recent years. Although superhero movies are frequently recognized in the technical Oscar categories (last year Suicide Squad won the Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar), rarely are they ranked in the upper echelon categories. The most notable example was when Heath Ledger won a posthumous Best Supporting Actor Oscar for playing The Joker in The Dark Knight. The 90th Academy Award nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, so there are still a few weeks to go until we learn if Wonder Woman will crack that barrier. But even if the DCEU film is unable to do so, perhaps it will be nominated in other categories, like Best Visual Effects. Regardless, Wonder Woman has already cemented itself as an incredibly successful movie, so no matter what awards it may or may not win in the near future, it will still be appreciated by many in the years to come. Wonder Woman is now available to watch in the comfort of your own home on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. You can also catch up with the present day Diana Prince in Justice League, which is wrapping up its theatrical run and will be available on home media in the coming months.

Can anyone name a movie that was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars that got totally ignored by the Golden Globes?

I didn't get owned, I asked a question and got an answer. Even so, this doesn't mean WW is going to score a nomination, because the difference between it and Extremely Loud Incredibly Close was that at the time ELEC was expected by many to be a major contender at the Oscars based on director Stephen Daldry's past work. However, it was no home run and the film received very mixed reception, as such it did not lead to any nominations at the CGA, BAFTA, Screen Actor's Guild and Golden Globes, but it still landed Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor nominations - the former of which was heavily criticized by the press, and as such it didn't win. The decision at the time was total "gut instinct", and it's not been repeated since.

I think DC-Fanboy is still seething because everyone (including me) laughed at him when WW received zero GG nominations. ... and apparently, he took names! The implication is that after zero GG nominations, an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture is pretty darn remote. So darn remote that it's been pointed out that it only happened once before. Only DC-Fanboy would think that revelation is some sort of vindication of his unwavering hope for a Best Picture nomination. I guess the chances of WW getting an AA Best Picture nomination is better than the chances of Jerry Jones hoisting a Lombardi this season. Pretty darn remote > zero

Pretty darn remote > zero Well the GG's are a meaningless award, out of the two the PGA nom means more than a GG nom as the GG's voting body is smaller than the PGA and the PGA members do actually vote on the AA's where as the GG chumps don't, but you may have a point in that the utter snubbing of WW for any category being a very bad sign.
Also his opinion isn't wrong by earning a guild nomination it means there is proof and not just speculation that WW does have significant support amongst atleast one group of the voters, where as to now it's all been hearsay and spin, this is actual proof of real backing to an extent.
But obviously how much support is unclear, if WW is "snubbed" by the other guilds it'll mean nothing really, and you don't know how significant a split it had, for all we know another CBM could have been neck and neck with WW and WW beat it out by a whisker, which you can speculate as to why it won out over the other all day.

Yeah! I think the boost was too much and it reached escape velocity. Now it is out of sight. I cannot see it in the list.

Hi DC-Fan , great day for the Oscars huh?!? Given WW did so well at the Teen Choice Awards, I am amazed that the Academy didn't follow suit.
