Was thinking about checking these out. What does everyone here think about them? And should I read the novels or the comic versions?

I've read all three and they're pretty fantastic. The best part for me is how all the characters act intelligently and come off as seasoned pros. Often the plot focuses on a "battle of wits" type of conflict rather than direct combat which was a refreshing change of pace for the franchise. However, the most well known aspect of the books is it's titular villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn. And with good reason, the tactics he devises are genuinely clever and is able to pose as a threat to the heroes despite lacking any real physical prowess.
The author, Timothy Zahn, also has a strong grasp on syntax. Whenever I read the dialogue I could hear the character's voices inside my head. He really does know how to utilize the characters, old and new, effectively.
The only flaw worthy of note is that there is a shortage of action in the trilogy. While the "battle of wits" is a nice change the pace, the lack of any high action does leave a noticeable absence.
Still I would not let that deter you from checking out the novels as they are solid additions of the franchise(canon or not). I have not read the comic versions, so I cannot comment on that, but I would definitely recommend the novels should you find theme.

I am currently reading them I am on the second one. They are awesome so far!!! Like the other guy said there isnt as much action but thats alright, I just love reading what many people called the sequel trilogy before Disney bought star wars. I just love reading about Thrawn as well he is such a compelling character.

I love them. They were the first SW books I read. I bought all three of them and have read them a few times.

Star Wars expanded universe was pretty much my child hood reading. They have these awesome Graphic Novel Omnibus volumes and they're so good. It's unfortunate that none of it is canon any more.

I've also been thinking about reading the book about Darth Plaguis. And yeah. Gotta scrap it if we're gonna make 200 spin-off movies, I suppose.
