I actually do not remember much from it. Saw it once, and that was it. I went with disliked it as I gave it 4/10. Not bad just not my kind of entertainment. Love the original but the remake did nothing for me.

Pointless remake. I didn't care for it. It's competently made (and I like that there are no CGI effects) but pales in comparison to the original Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. The characters are either unlikable or forgettable, there's no humor and, worst of all, no Bruce Campbell!
My rating: 5/10.

I liked it bordering on loved it. It's not perfect, but I like the art direction, the "wet" look, and the gore is good (and I'm not big on gore). 8/10.

Not as good as the other three, but a good remake nonetheless. I liked how it tried to be scary and gory again, like the original. Only downside is that without the campy fun added in with a wise-cracking Bruce Campbell, it just isn't the same. But still, 7/10.

The over the top presentation and cheesy, slapsticky humor didn't do it for me. It worked in well with the first, due to the fine blend of horror\comedy and it was scary. It then began to parody itself. The remake gave us a full throttle horror opus instead. I love all of them, but Evil Dead II to me was the best of the series because it combined the two, giving us a perfect balance of comedy and bloody gore. Yeah the original did blend in some comedy, but it just wasn't executed as well. (To be honest, I don't even think it was trying to be comedic at all.) To agree with you somewhat on the latter, while I do like Army of Darkness a lot, it didn't feel like a horror film whatsoever and fell into the fantasy-action-comedy zone, something like Monty Python and the Holy Grail (which I've actually never seen, but I can imagine that that is one AOD was inspired by in a way). That being said, I still think I prefer it to the remake for the campiness it had. Although, I can see why AOD could be one's least favourite of the lot.

There are two kinds of Evil Dead movies: intentionally funny ones and unintentionally funny ones. The original and remake can try to be serious all they like, but they're still so OTT and cartoonish I laugh anyway.
Anyway, the remake was okay. It actually kept me guessing who the main character was, which is rare.

Just not enough for it to be considered a horror comedy imo.

That being said, I still think I prefer it to the remake for the campiness it had. Although, I can see why AOD could be one's least favourite of the lot. I was disappointed with EDII, because I thought it lacked gore, especially for a film that was released unrated. Too much of Bruce Campbell mugging to the camera and the film being like a loony tunes cartoon and ridiculing it's own original premise. It also wasn't scary like the first. AOD was just PG13 kiddie fantasy stuff. Have never cared for it.
I partly agree with your comment about the first not attempting to be comedic at all. I'm sure all involved in this classic low budget zombie opus, knew that it couldn't be taken too seriously, but it played off that way, in spite of the over the top cheesy effects, that still had a disturbing and raw quality about them. I remember being very scared by Cheryl's initial transformation and she played her character serious and frightened. The card game sequence and pencil in ankle scene is classic.
Yeah, EDII did kind of toned down the gore, but only a little. It's kind of like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, where it plays out like a comedy of the original, but for some odd reason, it actually works. Its bizzareness and craziness adds to the overall experience and makes up for some great fun. The only difference is, TCM 2 still isn't anywhere as good as the original, but ED2 improved upon its predecessor. Seems like a lot of B-horror movies from the early-80s and before were taken somewhat comedically, but I agree that the original Evil Dead is one scary, raw classic. I cringe at the pencil stabbing scene whenever I see it.

Loved it- 8/10. Incredibly underrated and quite scary. It's not as good as the OT but it's still great nonetheless.

Dislike it.
As far as "remakes" go it is middle of the road. It does feel especially pointless to me though and that is my main problem.
