A Separate Peace The Catcher in the Rye The Great Gatsby
(had to read all of these in high school, mercifully we only had to read a few chapters or excerpts of Ulysses by Joyce)
I read Silence (Endo) during the lead up to the film being released. It seemed like an interesting premise. I finished it but boy what a downer. I never saw the film as a result.
I actually like Heart of Darkness. I struggled quite a bit with Canterbury Tales in high school and college, but enjoyed it quite a bit after I wasn't being forced to read it.
I do enjoy the Bible outside of perhaps Leviticus and portions of 1 Chronicles (chapters 1 - 9?) dealing with genealogy. Those are pretty boring.

The Great Gatsby Animal Farm, although I was a kid when I read it. I love the film but couldn't finish The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
Never got any sense out of it, and it was boring as hell.
Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe
Just couldn't get into it. The story just felt weird and uncomfortable. It was something I had to read for my English class in college. Things literally started falling apart and going wrong the moment I started reading that book, and I had to threw it out.
