On the next Star Wars... Han Solo bumps into Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, Darth Vadar, the Cantina band, Obi-Wan, and not forgetting Greedo!
"I've made a huge mistake": Ron Howard, 2018.

eh, not looking and sounding too good currently.
Howard is a craftsman not a magician, he can polish it but he can't turn a turd into gold.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I very much like Ron Howard as a director and a person. I would like to see him succeed with his Solo movie.
However, that would mean Disney succeeding too, which I don't want at all. It's time for Disney to see some financial losses for the decisions they've made with the franchise. I do see the irony in them making a movie that has the line, "Let the past die!" yet their standalone movies are far from letting the past die. i.e. A movie about Death Star plans, a Han Solo origin movie, and a Ben Kenobi movie...there's also the rumor that a Boba Fett standalone movie was in the works at one point.

The guy behind the Da Vinci Code trilogy, saving Solo: The Han Solo Solo Movie? I very much doubt it.

It is a bit unfair to judge him based off of one movie. Every artist has a hit-and-miss once awhile. The only time they typically don't is if they die young like John Cazale (although he wasn't a director and only an actor). Personally, I really like Howard's A Beautiful Mind, Ransom, Cinderella Man, and Frost/Nixon.

Rush for instance is my favorite racer movie - precise and well structured to a T and great rivaly and performances. They should do a pod racer movie based on that.

It *might* be watchable. I was thinking if he was attached from the beginning, he could have made it similar to RUSH, except in space.

He is a competent director, but he is too by the numbers director also. I don't really like his work, nor do I detest it. SO it's a 50/50 gamble.

Even TLJ rehashed the hell outta ESB and ROTJ. Nope, Disney is nowhere near interested in letting the past die.

Why didn't Disney start off with Ron Howard though?

Luke training Rey, Rey "remembering" Ahch-To in a dream, Rey's dark Force vision, Rey moving rocks, Rey trying to redeem Kylo Ren, opening scene rehashes Hoth escape, space chase, salt/ice planet, AT-AT battle with snow speeders/podracers, the throne room stuff, romantic kiss in 3rd act, new minority male character who betrays our heroes, etc.

I can say this is the first Star Wars movie I despise. I mention this to express that I'm not defending the movie when I argue that Luke training Rey, in itself, isn't rehash. A Jedi training another Jedi isn't copying the prior movies - in fact, it's necessary to the mythos of Star Wars. I agree with you on a lot of your other points though.
