Back in the day, when I was about sixteen or seventeen, my father surprised me greatly by telling me that John Lennon had released a new album called Double Fantasy and that he wanted to listen to it. I had not figured him for a Beatles fan, and evidently he was not, because he then told me that the reason he wanted to listen to it was to learn what if any social messages it contained. My father believed in the existence of a secret world government, but I thought the idea was farfetched and that my father was possibly on the outer edge of the lunatic fringe. He died the day after my eighteenth birthday, and it was many years later that I realized he was right. Dad, if you can hear me......you were right.
Anyway, I've sometimes wondered if he focused on John Lennon because of the previous hit single called Imagine. I think there's a good chance that everyone reading this has heard that drippy song at some point in life. Imagine all the people......living life in peace. Beautiful, huh? The problem is that a generation of miserable misfits seems to have taken a concept from the song which may or may not have been intended by the songwriter. I've been on the Internet for 10+ years, and I've seen the comment many times that killing and bloodshed and suffering could all be eliminated if religion was outlawed. A whole generation was suckled on this idiocy, and they are evidently still believing it.
First of all, it's impractical. Religion, whether you like it or not, fulfills a psychological purpose for many people, and it's value is not lost on the sociopaths who control this world. All the religions and churches in the world will eventually be merged into one religion for the planet. You may not believe that, but it's planned already, and some of you reading this may actually live long enough to look back and say, "Erjen, you were right." I'll be dead by then, because I'd rather die than be hustled into a religion which I don't believe in, but maybe I'll hear you wherever I am in the spirit realm. So, the biggest joke is going to be on the anti-theists who spent their lives trying to erode the religious and spiritual beliefs of others, only to find out (much to their horror) that a world without religion was never in the program. It was an illusion.
Second of all, even if religion were to be wiped off the face of the earth, it wouldn't take away the evil in people's hearts and minds. And the only thing that would stop wars and fighting is a world dictatorship, kind of like the Pax Romanum. For those of you not familiar with Latin, that means the Roman Peace, and the Roman Empire did maintain peace for about two centuries, but that doesn't mean it was a pleasant peace to live under, or that everyone had a good time. All it meant was that they had no insurrections and civil wars for about two hundred years. This is something that comes up on the board from time to time, and the individuals who try to teach us that religion and spiritual belief only cause misery and suffering get proved wrong every time, so they wait a while and try it again.
Well, I'm not waiting for it to come up again. This is a preemptive thread. I'd like to get replies from the intelligent ones of the board's regular posters; Vegas, Marv, drystyx, clusium, CoolJGS, maya55555, and Arlon10. Sorry if I left anyone out. And if Cinemachinery and his goons want to throw in their two cents, well who am I to tell them they can't, what with "free speech" and all?
