more people saw Iron man than saw Justice League No, Justice League made $70 million more than Iron Man. it's not the fact someone knew who the hero was, this is actually a regular thing in CBM's a new person is brought in on the secret or revealed to know it, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin and so on all have this the secret ID revealed to a not in the know character, Fan 4 never had secret id's that's actually a part of their deal everyone knows who they are and where they are, IM flipped the script of a typically secretive hero actually ousting himself to the world. And all of that is still irrelevant to the topic, which is the most iconic quotes in superhero moives and TV shows. Like I said in a previous post, the first 2 are as well-known to the general public as any of Shakespeare's quotes. Most people know that "faster than a speeding bullet" is a reference to Superman. That's how iconic those lines are. On the other hand, three's nothing iconic about the Iron Man line. Most people don't know and aren't familiar with the Iron Man lines so it isn't iconic at all. 1:At a cost of on average $7.18 in 2008 Iron Man's box office = more tickets sold than JL at $8.98, JL made 10% more with a 25% ticket cost increase as such IM was seen by more people, you flaming ninny.
2: Didn't say it made the line iconic, I don't think it is myself but that was the point you were making in the quote I was responding to, you falsely stated this was a played out approach already been done in CBM's which it wasn't, you were wrong admit it don't try and make out like I'm making an irrelevant point when I'm simply countering a false point you made which is irrelevant because how does something not being a first time thing make it any less iconic or memorable? the no mans land scene isn't the first time a hero has done something like that but that doesn't take away from the strength of that scene, so stop being a twat ffs.

DC-Fan I completely disagree with your Point 1—not many people saw Iron Man? Really?—but there’s no tangible evidence, I suppose, though it earned $585.2 million at the box office. 2) I’m willing to be persuaded on this, pursuant to seeing genuine factual evidence. What are the two previous superhero movies in which the hero revealed his identity? 1) Not many people saw Iron Man. Every DECU movie made more than Iron Man. The Dark Knight was released the same year as Iron Man and made 1.7 times more than Iron Man.
2) If it's just superheroes revealing their identity that's been done plenty of times before Iron Man. The X-Men and Fantastic Four basically don't have secret identities. And even before that, Superman revealed his identity to Lois Lane in Superman II and Batman revealed hisidentity to Selina Kyle in Batman Returns. So superheroes revealing their identity isn't anything new (despite your claim that Iron Man was the 1st), just like shared cinematic universes aren't anything new (despite the claim by MCU fans that MCU is the 1st shared cinematic universe in movie history).
As for the line "I am Iron Man", that's basically a copy of the "I'm Batman" line in Batman and the "Who am I? I'm Spider-Man." line in Spider-Man. The line been used several times before so it was just cliché in Iron Man.
1. Yet, not one has made a billion yet. There was no reason why Justice League couldn't make a billion. Iron Man was the first of the MCU films, so obviously The Dark Knight was a bit more anticipated. 2. Yeah, superheroes reveal their identities all the time, but Iron Man took it up to the eleven by announcing to the whole world that he's Iron Man. And no one on here has said the MCU is the first shared cinematic universe. But it redefined a modern-day cinematic universe is, which the DCEU will never be able to replicate.

It's a shame that this had to become another Marvel vs DC discussion for no reason at all but to add on to something.
It actually really is bad that Justice League only made $70 million more than Iron Man. Not just from the fact that it's a Justice League movie but that movie also had 9 years of inflation on Iron Man, Justice League had the benefit of 3D showings unlike Iron Man and Iron Man came out before the huge overseas expansion that began starting in 2010.

Seems some people here don't know the meaning of the word "iconic". *Hint: it has nothing to do with whether you like a line or not*
Anyway, here's my list of classic iconic lines (off the top of my head) in no particular order: "With great power comes great responsibility." "Hulk smash!" "It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman!" "Avengers assemble!" "I'm Batman!" "Faster than a speeding bullet, etc." The different variations of "Holy smokes, Batman!"
Then there are the newer ones. Not quite as iconic as the ones above but it's mostly just because they're fairly new. Still, they're very recognizable and given enough time can be quite iconic: "Why so serious?" "You have failed this city!" "You're not worthy" "Mewling quim!" "Puny god" "Wanna know how I got these scars?" "The hero that Gotham deserves but not the one it needs..." "Do you bleed?" "Sun's getting real low..." "Why did you say that name???" "Martha!" <- you have to admit that this has become one of the most memed expressions lately "I am Groot" "A genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist"
There are probably others but I didn't want to make my list too long. I tried to be as fair and unbiased as possible and included the best quotes from multiple franchises, but for the life of me I couldn't think of a single iconic line from Fox's X-men films. "Flame on" and "Clobberin' time" would be the closest ones from the F4 movies but I couldn't think of one from the X-men ones.

I still see it quoted around the net and even heard co-workers say it a lot.

Ah, good one. Yes, that definitely deserves to be in there. Considering how new that line is it's pretty spectacular how often you see it mentioned.

Ah, good one. Yes, that definitely deserves to be in there. Considering how new that line is it's pretty spectacular how often you see it mentioned. because it's such shameless Disney cross-promotion for their IP properties such as the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns reboot - also it became an inside joke on the net because of "Sherry Poppins" Leia and the horrifying Marvel-ization of franchises such as Star Wars that now have mamma jokes and MCU nipples, turds and penis dialogue. Mary Poppins may be iconic, this scene and line is just embarrassing iconoclastic and stands for the entire junk food, pop reference movie approach.

Regardless of reasoning (and I disagree with yours), it doesn't matter when one discusses what lines are iconic or not. Heck, "Martha" is gearing up to be one of the most iconic lines in a superhero movie in the last few years, and that's definitely not due to its positive reception. Whatever you may feel about "I'm Marry Poppins y'all", whatever reason you think it's become popular, doesn't change the fact that it's gearing up to be pretty iconic.

Not if you understand the meaning of words. "Iconic" comes from religious icons, in a wider sense it's usually defined as " widely known/established and acknowledged especially for distinctive excellence". However, neither Martha nor I'm Marry Poppins y'all would fall under this, not even close. These quotes may currently be popular Movie quotes amongst CBM nerds but they hardly qualify as "excellence" nor are they widely known and acknowledged outside of some CBM fanboys - the lines rather serve as mock lines for bad filmmaking. I never saw somebody use these in reverence, if at all they are anti-iconic. QED

So since that line was never actually said, it has to be removed from the list.
