As long as he can pull off the gentle voice, I give him the green light.

It's Tom Hanks. I'll give it a shot.

Eh. He wouldn't have been my first choice.

Eh. He wouldn't have been my first choice. moviebuffbrad and I think that David Strathairn would've been a better choice since he looks more like the late Fred Rogers than Tom Hanks does.

it depends on how the biopic is going to be written. the show started in 1968 and he was like 40 showing in black and white he could pass for 35.
if it is going to span the entire show's tenure [all the way to a week before 9/11, then we will have a lot of black hair dye to go through.

It's being directed by the "Diary of a Teenage Girl" director.
I'd be interested in how it'd turn out had Hanks's "Mr.Banks" (2013) director John Lee Hancock did this instead.
Shooting's planned for Sony/Tri-Star, who had a big baby of a smash last summer with "Baby Driver"(VERY great and stunning movie.)
Tom Hanks himself-I'm so in. I already can hardy wait. It's about a reporter who is---as you'd likely already guessed----impressed by Freddy R.

Am I the only one who could have seen Sam Rockwell as Mister rogers?

I personally think that actor Fred McFeely Rogers would have been the best choice to play Mr. Rogers, if only he hadn't passed on in 2003. His resemblance is very similar. Tom Hanks will be too busy with his presidential run to take a role of this magnitude seriously.

There are two fantastically great documentaries about him on PBS …. see no sense in Hollywood-izing him. They are incapable of writing a true story about anyone real !

ok I watched the video above … Hanks is fine as far as casting (imo) … picture itself depends on what they do story wise.
Would not be right as Fred but Michael Keaton was a cast / crew member on the tv show when he was much younger !
