Is he even called Shazam? Or was that just what he said when he transformed?

They might be wanting to separate the character then I suppose to avoid confusion. Even if there wasn't another Captain Marvel they might not want to title their DC movie after Marvel.

Even if there wasn't another Captain Marvel they might not want to title their DC movie after Marvel. In the comics, DC can refer to him as Captain Marvel within the comic but they're not allowed to use "Captain Marvel" on the title of the comic. The same might apply to the movie (i.e. they can't call the movie "Captain Marvel", but they can refer to him as Captain Marvel within the movie).
And I think they will refer to him as Captain Marvel in the movie. Because the Mary Marvel character will be in the movie so it would make sense to refer to him as Captain Marvel in the movie. That's how the 1970s TV series did it too. The TV series was titled "Shazam!" but the character was called Captain Marvel.

Even if there wasn't another Captain Marvel they might not want to title their DC movie after Marvel. Marvel owns the name Captain Marvel..it's their trademark since the 60's. DC didn't own the Shazam/Captain Marvel character until the 70's after a long running legal battle in which they sued and consequently shutdown the publishers of Shazam/Captain Marvel. Like V For Vendetta, Shazam/Captain Marvel is a character/title they didn't create, but obtained. DC have stuck with the Shazam name because most of the public think that is his name.

It would probably really confused people if after they make that Captain Marvel movie they then have another superhero movie with a different character also called Captain Marvel.
They should just stick with calling him Shazam so people don't get confused.

Shazam! is a so much better a name anyway considering the lighter tone of this character, Captain marvel sounds super generic and should be avoided at any legal cost.

Captain Marvel was a popular TV series in the 1970s so many people are going to be confused by the MCU version of Captain Marvel since they'll think a Captain Marvel movie will be about the character from the 1970s TV series.

And to what level will there really be any confusion. I doubt there are many who remember the show that care. And those that re-watch the show now are probably comic book fans who already know the history behind the characters name.

Was DC's Captain Marvel....even a Captain? He was given the name "Captain Marvel" by Shazam (the wizard) so he's not a Captain in the military definition. At least Captain Marvel didn't steal anyone else's rank like Steve Rogers stole the rank of Captain from other more qualified and more experienced officers who had worked their butts off for many years to put themselves in line for a promotion to Captain but didn't get the promotion because they weren't given a Super-PED like Steve Rogers was given.

But most people remember him as Captain Marvel and when most people hear "Captain Marvel", they think of the Shazam character. Captain Marvel was not only a very popular character in the 1970s Shazam! TV series, but Captain Marvel was also the 1st comic-book superhero to have his own movie:
Adventures of Captain Marvel
So like I said, many people are going to be confused by the MCU version of Captain Marvel since they'll think a Captain Marvel movie will be about the character from the 1970s TV series.

I'm just telling you the TV series was called Shazam. Do they? And this assumption is based on what? So what Are they really. I assume many people will not give a fuck, and those that do care will already know the situation. The only people who will really care are lawyers This really was a pointless response by you. Why not devote some time to actual posts that need your response...like the Wonder Woman Oscar nominations "snub", or Black Lightning's name actually referring to his race?

I didn't even know there was a Captain Marvel series in the 70's, I doubt it would confuse the masses now.
