So with the recent mention of Blade, especially by the Black Panther reviews, got me in the mood to discuss the film in question. So what is everyone thoughts on the 1998 film, Blade?

Blade was pretty good. I never read the comic or anything so I don't know how accurate it was but as far as 90's action movies go it was pretty solid, probably Wesley Snipes best movie.
The opening club scene was pretty memorable.
The second one wasn't too bad either but the third one was absolutely awful.

I was a kid when I first saw Blade on home media. It terrified me. And not just because of the vampires. Snipes himself was the "blackest" dude I'de seen in a big-budget horror film at that point. He seemed to come from another world with his haircut, hyper-stylized martial arts, and the whole black samari thing. Before Blade, I thought Vampire hunters were all middle-aged white guys who carried medical bags full of wooden stakes and prayed a lot. Dorf also seemed scary although not in a physical way, his casual brutality and joyful sadism left an impression on me. Blade is a hugely entertaining film with near infinite replay value. It has immersive world-building, and everyone in the movie seems committed to their character even when it gets ridiculous and over the top (the fat, whiny vampire comes to mind here). And despite Snipes' one-note approach to the character, his consisting baritone bark (through obviously fake fangs) and one-liners still make for a compelling performance. Not only did I root for him from start to finish, I secretly hoped he'd kill every euro-trash, bloodsucker he could get his hands on in the worst way possible. 8/10 When you find out Blade's mom is still alive and intent on seducing him, as a kid, that's high drama. Hee hee hee...

I still love the first two. Blade was just a really cool character and the action was great, minus a few cringe worthy CGI fight scenes. The third was pretty terrible.

9/10 for me. The film big flaw for me is the weak cgi, but other than that i really like it.

9/10 for me. The film big flaw for me is the weak cgi, but other than that i really like it. For the era, those effects were state of the art if not groundbreaking. It’s easy to call them weak in hindsight but, context is important. You could only push a Pentium chip so hard, my friend.💾

It's nothing too major that it completely ruins the movie for me, but it is something that does take a point off, for me at least.

8. It was pretty good--the bullet time effect that was used in the Matrix was used in Blade first.
"Did I catch you fuckers at a bad time?"

I'd probably give it like a 6. One of the coolest movie openings ever. Snipes was a good daywalker, until Trinity where he became a sleepwalker (hey-o). I will say the CG is pretty bad, and I didn't care much for the love interest. That scene where she tortures the fat vamp never sat right with me.

**somewhat spoilery below if you haven't seen the movie** I liked the majority of the movie. I thought Wesley Snipes was good as Blade (perhaps not 'overly expressive', but he worked the 'stoic' thing well enough). I liked his no-nonsense attitude, and enjoyed his relationship with Kris Kristofferson's character, Whistler. I really enjoyed Stephen Dorff as Deacon Frost. Possibly one of my favourite comic book movie villains ever. I liked that he started off as 'lower down' on the totem pole. He had people who were higher up than him, who treated him as lesser than them...but then he got his revenge on them and became more powerful than any of them - I like when that happens in movies, as I think the characetr who are treated like crap by their 'superiors' wind up being 'crazier' and having less self-control than their 'bosses'. When they get a hold of power, they go nuts with it. The only thing that drags down the movie for me is the dodgy-looking CGI - specifically the effects used for the EDTA darts which Blade sticks into a few vampires, including Deacon Frost at the end. It just looked too 'cartoonish', I thought. Karen says it's used to treat blood clots...well, I guess in vampires it had the opposite effect. On a MASSIVE scale. It just looked rather ridiculous in this movie which, up until that point, had been somewhat 'grounded' (as much as a movie with vampires in it could be). Just about anything else would've been a preferable death for the main villain of the movie than how he ended up getting taken out. I remember liking Blade's sword and that it had a safety guard against anyone but him who touched it. I also remember that this movie had the nastiest/most gruesome-looking vampire burning of the three movies. I do remember thinking Blade was the first movie I saw the 'bullet time' effect in (I think The Matrix may have added the camera-moving-around-in-a-circular-motion effect as it happened, but Blade was definitely the first movie I can recall seeing the effects with the bullets slowed down in such a fashion). If it occurred in even earlier movies, then my mistake. I may not have seen those. Anyway, it was a decent movie...but, unfortunately, let down in some areas. 8/10.

Anybody ever watch the spike t.v. show? I kinda liked it,Sticky Fingaz was no Snipes and the show was not better than the movies still entertaining with lots of potential, spike is a shitty network.

I'd give it an 8. Some of the most badass, raw action you'll see in a movie flick. I'm not usually a huge action fan, but I much prefer this kind of old school style than most that is offered today.
As to which is better Blade, or Black Panther....very different movies, and I'd give them almost the same rating. If I had to choose, I'd still go with Blade, because Wesley Snipes delivered a truly iconic incarnation.

7.5/10, the visual effects have not held up and look pretty hokey now but I consider it to be the best out of the trilogy, Blade II is better on certain cinematic levels however.

So you must be happy that Spike TV no longer exists, its the Paramount Network now. To answer your question though I saw a few episodes but never quite got into it, I did like Sticky as Blade and Jill Wagner was pretty good too.

I heard thank god that network was put its misery I hate when networks care for reality tv rather than actual shows. Btw before there was Kat Dennings Jill Wagner was one of the hottest actress in a Marvel product

Blade doesn't exist. It was a figment of our imagination. Black Panther is the first of its kind. Marvel is so revolutionary.
But Blade was awesome.
