I saw the first ten listed, had no idea there were so many more. If they're anything like The Amityville Haunting then they're not worth your time. I like the very first movie, Rod Steiger and those flies..."GET OUT!" "Rod Steiger and those flies" ---------------------------------- I thought that it was "James Woods and those flies" ?

You're getting Scary Movie 2 confused with The Amityville Horror, although, both are good for a laugh.

Whoa, I had no idea there were that many recent ones. I watched the original series, eight films I think, a couple times, and I've seen at least a couple of the recent ones, but I need to look for those others. My understanding is that people figured out around the year of the remake that since Amityville is the name of a city, it isn't under copyright. Anyone can make a film with Amityville in the title. So while some films look to be sequels, they are not really in the franchise proper.

Thinking about it, "THE POSSESSION" really is a Crazy and Freaky Movie.

Only The Amityville Horror, Amityville II: The Possession and Amityville 3-D make the original, official series. Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes used one of the official "Amityville" books as the source and it seems that some franchise rights were bough since the opening credits actually read "Amityville Horror: The Evil Escapes". The Amityville Curse was based on an unofficial Amityville book of the same name. The Republic Pictures trilogy, Amityville 1992: It's About Time, Amityville: A New Generation and Amityville Dollhouse, are completely unofficial as far as I know.

Part 3 might be my favourite, but The Possession I think is the best.

I wasn't really sure of the rights lineage. My impression was that many of the sequels in the 90s were related to the original films through some kind of rights connection (certainly not plot) and that it wasn't until the early 2000s that people started making Amityville films completely unconnected to the original franchise, but my information is both hazy and sketchy, so I'll defer to your expertise. Thanks again!
