Is the Internet starting to fail, from having too many options?
Over the past couple of years, I have been having more and more problems with accessing websites or certain features on those websites.
In many cases, I may get a message saying that my Browser is out of date and is no longer supported... So then, I will update my browser to the latest version... and I still may get the same error message!
I've even updated Java, and Flash, and Shockwave... ETC.
After updating to the latest and "greatest" versions of everything that I have installed... Somethings may now work, and in other instances, they no longer work.
It's become something of a gamble... I don't want to lose access to important websites, so the question I tend to face is... should I upgrade or not?... And then waiting, until I just can't do anything anymore, to finally updating.
I haven't been able to login to my auto insurance website for over a year and a half... I have to pay by phone.
Not being able to login to a website for over a year and half, is complete bullshit!
I just updated Java last night, and now I can't view YOUTUBE videos, either on this website, or on YOUTUBE... while using Google Chrome, which is only 5 months old... (Yes, I plan to update that soon...) But, it's only five months old.
But, I can access YouTube with a different browser...
Another website I use, has a reCAPTCHA security feature built in, it seems that the plugin, can not contact the reCAPTCHA website, and the login fails... This is not my problem, as this is happening to many others... You can do a google search and see all the help discussions on that...
Apparently those writing the reCAPTCHA plugin, can't make it compatible with everything, and yet, websites all over the place insist on using this security feature which doesn't work, and keeps hundreds of honest people, out.
Constantly, I am faced with my programs, saying that they want to update, or sometimes it may try to do it behind my back...
As I understand, Windows 10, is now trying to force updates on it's users, if you want to keep using it. Thankfully, I still used Windows 7!
If this is happening to me, then I guess, it is happening to everyone else too...
Constant changes these days... Where as, a decade ago, it didn't happen so much.
This makes me wonder if there are too many different setups out there, making it difficult for web designers to create compatible media.
With... Desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones... Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and apparently several different versions of Windows 10... IE 11, Edge, Chrome, Firefox... Java, Flash, Shockwave... 32Bit, 64Bit...
How can any designer keep up?
Right now, it is like every website has a combination lock.... If you don't have a Desktop PC, with Windows 7, Java from 6 Months ago, and the Flash Player that was released last week.... You can't get in.
Could all this variety, actually be making it harder to use the Internet?
I wonder what things will like 5 years from now, or even 10 years from when there is even more products and different setups...
