A religious trivia quiz. I asked a version of this question a few months ago in another board. Nobody knew the answer. Since the answer involves a now-deceased religious figure, I thought I'd ask it here as well. I know Salzmank saw this puzzle when I first posted it, so please let others try. It's a two-part puzzle. Here part one of the puzzle: For the purposes of this puzzle, let's define an "Executive" as either the U.S. President or U.S. Vice president. For example, Gerald Ford was an Executive for about thirty-seven months. He served eight months as Vice President and twenty-nine months as President. In alphabetical order, the five longest-serving "Executives" were - John Adams
- George H. W. Bush
- Thomas Jefferson
- Richard Nixon
- Franklin Roosevelt
Part one of this puzzle is to determine who was an Executive for the longest amount of time, then the second-longest, the 3rd longest, etc. In other words, put the above five Executives in descending order based on the length of time they were an "Executive". Part two of this puzzle is the religious trivia. Without the actions of a historical religious leader, the first puzzle would have a slightly different answer. So the second part of this puzzle is to name the religious leader whose decree changed the answer to the first puzzle.

I take it the deceased religious figure isn't Jefferson who wrote the Jefferson Bible and the actions being that he announced he was running for President, or outlined the rules when he wrote the Constitution? Without looking it up, my guess is: FDR Nixon Jefferson George HW Bush John Adams The only idea I can presume for a religious leader having an affect would be if someone refused to work and swear a president on a Sunday or something. The last 3 all have around the same time, so I'm thinking that's it.

... Without looking it up, my guess is: ... Looking it up is permissible. I don't expect you to memorize the inauguration dates for each POTUS and VPOTUS. That's not the "trivia" part of the question. And as a further clue: The religious leader does have his own Wikipedia page and he was already deceased when Adams or Jefferson were born.

Nixon was VP for 2 full terms and President from Jan 69 to August 74 (over 13 years in all).
FDR was President a little over 12 years (March 1933 to April 1945).
George HW Bush had 2 VP terms and one Presidential term. Jefferson had one VP term and two Presidential terms (12 years) But technically Bush 41 had an extra day compared to Jefferson since 1800 wasn't a leap year. 1800 is divisible by 100, but it isn't divisible by 400.
Adams had 2 VP terms (but Washington's first presidential term was a little less than 4 years, it didn't start until April of 1789) and one Presidential term (little less than 12 years)
1. Nixon
2. FDR
3. Bush 41
4. Jefferson
5. John Adams
So if it wasn't for the leap year rule Bush 41 and Jefferson would have tied. Would the religious figure be Pope Gregory since the Gregorian calendar established rules for when leap years fall?
