Anyone watch that show on Netflix?
I found it to be very impressive. I liked many of the themes. This was hard science fiction that assumed the viewer wasn't dumb.
Episode 6 or 7 was a bit too much flashback for me, but the ending two shows really wrapped it up. Damn if I didn't cry.
I liked it when the hot mexican cop brought her grandmother back in the body of a gangster for the day of the dead ceremonies.
"I was double sleeved, one of us had to die".

I think the acting is horrible overall, but I think it got better as the show progressed. The story is pretty good like.
I liked the flashbacks because I liked the lead's character better in the past.

The flashbacks grew on me when I look back on the entire narrative. I wonder if that kind of immortality would eventually make anyone go bad?

Everyone in the future talked the same and it was annoying. I liked the flashbacks because everyone seemed to have personality. The cops were completely worthless, which I think is the point, but it was confusing in the beginning. Otherwise though, it ramped up to being a good series and especially since they obviously spent a boatload of money on it so it looks nice too.

The pacing is good, the set design and overall look is incredible, the cinematography is epic...
The writing is awful. So. Many. Bad. Lines.
Still lapping it up, though.

I'm a big fan of the book series and thought they conveyed the world Richard Morgan created pretty well. Didn't much care for them making the character of Reileen into his sister, though (he had no sis in the books). I also wasn't impressed with most of the cast.

I am also a big fan of the books and although I mostly liked it, some of the changes rubbed me the wrong way too. Radical modifications to the Quellcrist Falconer character change the story in fundamental ways (in the books, she had nothing to do with the creation of stacks or Envoys, and never even met Kovacs). These changes are for the worse, IMO. I can't shake the feeling the back-story was essentially dumbed down, and that's going to make a faithful adaptation of the last book pretty much impossible.

I've never read Richard Morgan, if he's like Gibson or Neal Stephenson I'd probably like him.
Another thing I enjoyed was in the first episode...
IMO three fundamental human experiences are getting tattooed, doing psychedelic drugs, and having sexual intercourse.
The fact that those were the first things Kovacs does after being 're-sleeved' endeared me to the series.

I’m thru episode 5 and I’m liking it. It took me an episode to get acclimated to this world. As you said, they assume you’re smart...so a lot of the terminology isn’t spoon fed. So you kind of have to catch on quick.

I enjoy themes of AIs striving to feel human emotion. Poe is one of the changes from the book that actually improved the story, IMO. In the book, the hotel is the Hendrix, and although it's run by an AI that helps Kovacs in similar ways, it has far less personality than Poe and no avatar for humans to interact with in the real world.

Poe is maybe my favorite character so far. 7 eps in now.
Love the black chick...Falconer or something. She’s great. Love his sister too.

I warmed to it, towards the end, but i wasn't impressed with the acting overall. I really disliked the character of the shrill, bossy, arrogant Latina woman. I was happy with the ending if it means we don't see her anymore, and perhaps Kovacs will come back in another sleeve, hopefully one that fits the part better. I found the writing weak though, especially when it turned out that the sister was behind everything. I just didn't buy it.
