I sat down this morning on my day off work. I watched the Ultimate Cut.
I don't know what it was about this viewing. I didn't get out my phone, I didn't get interrupted, I just watched the Bluray and really focused on the story.
This is a damn good movie. People let the media sway their opinion way too much. So a bunch of critics bashed it, and the media just claims "it's a bad movie". Why do the masses of sheep just go along with it?
I agree the theatrical cut was edited weird, but the sad thing is the Ultimate Cut is a solid film.
I dont know any director that could balance two films in one, keeping WB happy, trying to propel the JL in one film all with a coherent story. Snyder did an amazing job and people bash him unfairly.
And is the DCEU really in as bad shape as the media wants us to believe? They're making a ton of money. Isn't that their goal?

The UE definitely flows like a movie should. But the TC is a garbled mess (one that I didn't hate, but didn't love either). It's a shame that we didn't get to see this version first. I don't think it would have entirely fixed the critical response, but I think more fans would have been on board with it.

Good thing that now ,as we own the extended cut, we can forget the theatrical cut even existed. Just like the 2h20mins version of Once upon a time in America

They both gave this film a positive review. I do think the Ultimate Cut would have probably been about where Man of Steel was on RT... About 45-55% maybe more.

really bad, silly and rotten I'm sorry you feel that way and couldn't enjoy the film like I did. But that's okay, that's your preference.

Too dark and dreary for me, and I doubt the Director's Cut would change my mind. After all, it would still contain everything I didn't like about the Theatrical Cut. I didn't like how easily manipulated Batman was, I didn't like how Superman went through every scene like he was attending a funeral, and I absolutely loathe this new Lex Luthor.

Script: very light and silly Performances: Cavill can't deliver at all, Eisenberg was awful, Affleck meeh Direction: Style over substance, only brainless CGI All that from a director who confuses the "dark and serious" with violence (he wanted batman raped in a prison FFS) and dark colors...

If your problem was the dreary tone, then yes, the UE probably wouldn't change your mind. However, it does fix the continuity and flow of the film. The desert scene with Superman is the central plot of the UE, in the TC it's a footnote. It's amazing how they basically cut the entire Superman story into a muddled mess.

The ultimate cut is definitely a much superior film that eliminates most plot holes, but with the 3 hour runtime, its a bit of an exhausting experience. But they could have cut some stuff off like some the football scenes, unnecessary bat butt scene, the funeral scene also didn't need to be extended. The email scene has business being in the film and should have been an end credit scene at best. 7.5/10

That does sound a lot better, but it was the bleak tone that put me off the film. I hate to quote Moviebob, of all people, but I have to in this case: "Its a movie, not a funeral. Smile for God's sake!"

The tone wasn't the problem. The problem was the direction and writing. Zack Snyder even said himself that he doesn't think superheroes having a conversation together works. THAT'S why it felt bleak. Which is stupid because it has been proven MANY times that characters having a conversation together in superheroes movies CAN work. Just look how serious this scene is and tell me that it's bleak...

Batman (1989) is my favorite Batman film and BVS had a similar tone as well as bringing back the Batcave which I think is essential for the character.
I agree with the comments about the extended cut for BVS. Especially in the beginning (Superman in the desert) it contains important information. I don't think that everything in the Ultimate Cut was necessary, but overall it's better than the theatrical cut.
