I appreciate how in-depth the BBC went traveling to the specific village, but my God is there also a lot of nonsense in the article. Half of it is about misogyny basically and how that played a role. Which is absurd. I'm sure that it did not help, but you can also say poverty, international neglect, capitalism etc. a lot of things had a finger in creating such an environment where abuse is possible. It seems the journalist went in with a very specific agenda and was determined to pigeonhole it no matter what she learned.
Also the phone interviews revealed that the person was not indeed a pastor and was not officially part of a church. He was a nutjob influenced by very outdated beliefs shunned by mainstream believers, and where the "mysoginy" element comes into play is that this murder seems not to much about a genuine attempt to rid someone from demons, but some kind of dispute over adultery with the husband, where even the family don't know what's true and what isn't.
