great movie. The acting was just amazing. Kristin Scott Thomas, Patricia Clarkson, Timothy Spall, Charlotte Rampling, Cilian Murphy (does he just get HOTTER and HOTTER with age?!), Emily Mortimer, what an ensemble! I knew I was gonna love the movie already in the very first scene. When Kristin Scott Thomas opens a door (and holds the gun) and her her face is so intense but engaging at the same time. You immediately know "wow, this is gonna be interesting". If nothing else. But it showed to be so much more than just "interesting". The first 30 minutes had me so thrilled to learn whats next, I could barely wait. If you have a chance to see this little movie, do so. Its worth the time as well as money. Very fresh, smart, funny and touching at the same time. Also quite surprising and artistic without being pretentious. True cinematic experience. There are a few close ups at Timothy Spall that will make you remember (in case you forgot) why you fell in love with films in the first place.

That trailer was insanely dull, even for a talky yawn fest "independent" movie aimed at retirement aged women and pseudo intellectuals. Without any info other than the trailer in your post and your post itself I bet I can guess what viewers will be in for. Lot's of snarky painfully self aware dialogue disguised as dark comedy. I'm guessing it's a dark since you mention a gun. I'm guessing comedy from all that mean spirited banter and the champagne cork sight gag. Several "revelations" like at least one probably more of the characters is banging the other characters. Definitely one of the men is cheating and wants to leave his relationship with one of the women because men are so awful these days. One of the lesbians is banging a guy or at least has once. 50/50 one of the lesbians also banged one of the straight women. Lots of acerbic digs will be flung and of course much of the humor will revolve around bad relationships, politics and the intelligentsia.
Your insentience that the movie is not pretentious coupled with the cast and the pointless black and white photography means the movie is most likely very pretentious. It screams "You're oh so clever for watching. Please give us our awards now." Overall a painful 90 minutes or more for anyone that doesn't revel in patting herself on the back for watching a movie. There's my synopsis after watching a minute and 8 seconds. Nailed it, right?

There's my synopsis after watching a minute and 8 seconds. Nailed it, right? its only 70 minutes, and even though there are Some elements from what your post in the movie, I still don't think its a pretentious movie. On contrary, it makes fun of the intellectuals and "they ways" and its quite self aware. it has a very similar tone and atmosphere like Polanski Carnage. Did you like that? To me this was a very interesting mystery/thriller, with some very funny lines and great acting. I would recommend it. And because its so short, there is very low risk of becoming bored with it. the script naturally keeps presenting you with new interesting things to want to learn more about and once you learn everything interesting there is to learn, the movie is over. after your post, I would be interested in learning what you think about the movie once you have seen it. care to make my day?
