I don't see why you can't remake Police Academy. The original sucks ass but a funny cast and crew could probably do something with the concept.
Like what? They all smoke the weed in the evidence locker? Didn't they do that in the shitty 21 Jump Street movie?
I was actually going to use 21 Jump Street as a positive example of doing something like this. You're in the minority on thinking it's shit.

They could've named it '2 Stupid Cops' and see how many millions it made having no ties to a Johnny Depp project, I'm guessing it wouldn't be too many. Now Police Academy, which did not cash in on a pre-existing franchise, was made for $4.5 million and grossed $149 million worldwide.

Jaws and Raiders would be impossible to remake anyway because sensibilities have changed.
People aren't as afraid of the water and know a lot more about sharks, and people aren't as afraid of the god and know a lot more about arks.

The plot of the movie if very directly tied to the lead characters going undercover as high school students. I don't think you could really get around the Jump Street connection, and I think that's the main thing that drew Jonah Hill to redo it. Certainly not having a tie to a Johnny Depp project no one really remembers or cares about anymore. That show by 2012 was a trivia fact. Depp himself hated it and spent years trying to get fired. As for PA, I don't care how much money coke-addled 80s audiences wasted on it to see a guy make noises with his mouth and Steve Guttenberg anti-charisma his way around, that movie blows. I've had more laughs during Holocaust dramas.

Many of those classic horror movies from the 70s and 80s should never have been raped with remakes.

Co-writer and director Robert Zemeckis, who has final rights to all films in the Back to the Future franchise, has stated that he will block all attempts to remake or reboot the original film.
