Started my wife's second (as yet untitled) book, as kind of editor/proof-reader. Her first should be published online via a teensy-tiny US publisher this summer. I have to say, it's an easy reading thing, and she captures the characters well. I may be biased, and I may not read an awful lot of chick-lit, but it reads better to me than some of her favourite novels.

Did you wash her in tomato juice? Its supposed to help with the skunk odor. If she still smells you could also have her shaved. My weegie gets shaved twice a year since we've moved to Alabama but he's an indoor only cat.
EDIT: I just looked it up, tomato juice only masks the smell, Google had a formula of baking soda, dish soap (Dawn?) and hydrogen peroxide - you probably already looked up what to use. I've never had to deal with skunk odor. Hope Kitty smells fresh now.

A book about China's influence and intrigue into Africa in the early to mid 1960's. Interesting topic since China is still attempting to influence Africa to this day. Of course when the book was published the Soviet Union and its satellites were attempting to persuade the newly independent African governments to align themselves with them instead during the Sino/Soviet split. It also discusses American and British responses to the trend.

Fall, or Dodge in Hell by Neal Stephenson.
Hating it. I think I'm done with this guy for good at this point. Still like his earlier stuff a lot, especially Diamond Age, but his books have become bloated and in serious need of a stern editor.

Took me long enough, but finally one of George MacDonald Fraserโs Flashman books, Royal Flash. Itโs excellentโjust as irreverent, uproarious, and rascally as everyone says the series is, with Flashman himself a delightfully wicked rogue. As critic Nick Fuller noted, Fraser had to be influenced by John Dickson Carr, who also loved history, set many of his stories in the same period, and had the same peculiar but welcome politicsโa conservative libertarianism that celebrates individual rapscallions, dissenters, and swashbucklers, heaps scorn on bluenoses, stuffed-shirts, and economists (hear hear!), possesses no snobbishness or prejudice, and simultaneously champions institutions, including monarchy. Theyโre the only two authors I know who have a politico-cultural blend like that, to which Iโm more than sympathetic.
