Tense and terse noir directed by Edgar G. Ulmer.

9/10. Superb noir with a truly great femme fatale in Ann Savage.

Thanks, sdrew13163! This is, for me, the greatest film noir of all time. You can practically feel the slime oozing off of you. Tom Neal is a perfect noir protagonist, doomed from the start. What can be said about the great Ann Savage? Beautiful, without being glamorous. Dangerous without being unlikable. Smart, sassy and world-weary. Better than any of the Hollywood femme fatales (though many were great, they still feel "Hollywood", Ann feels like "look out"). And the film has layers and multiple interpretations that beg repeat viewings. A fantastic story, shot on a string-shoe budget, that feels like a noir should feel. If you haven't seen it, I cannot recommend it highly enough. 10/10

9/10 Awesome low budget noir. Ulmer is sadly underappreciated. That seems to happen a lot with directors from the film factory days. The enlightened will know Ulmer directed one of my favorite movies of all time.

Creepy and rough little noir, the kind of film that can't really be made these days. Ann Savage (apt name!) has one of the great bizarre demises of all time.
