Sequel to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.
Fun Fact: Roger Ebert loved this film so much that he believed it should have been nominated for an Oscar.

An 8.5. The best Spider-man movie with some of the best fight scenes in any superhero movie. It was a very solid movie. The CGI was good, the set pieces were good. It upped the ante from the first movie but not too much. Probably the funnier movie. The better villain. It had a more compelling story, bit more dramatic this time, more room to be it's own thing because it got the origin story out the way. It's not as dated but still a bit campy here and there. It also gave us arguably the greatest movie gif ever.

I still consider this one to be the gold standard. It's such a brilliant character driven movie, which a lot of fans don't realize was a big deal for comic book movies at the time. The action, humor, cinematography and characterization are all top notch. An absolute classic of the genre!

10/10. Spider-Man 2 is the best movie ever featuring Marvel comics characters. Amen! If there's a Marvel Movie I would even date put on the same Tier as The Dark Knight, it's this film. Definitely my favorite Spider-Man film and if I may be honest here, my Favorite Sam Raimi movie as well. A 10/10 film. Damn shame Spider-Man 3 went off the deep end because this could have easily been one of the greatest comic book trilogies of all time!

A really great movie even though it does seem a little dated. The villain is likeable before his change and has a empathetic turn towards the end. The supporting cast of JJ Jameson, MJ, Harry, Aunt May are all excellent. 9/10

8/10. A classic from before the Dark Times. Before the Empire "A young producer named Kevin Feige, who was a pupil of the XCU until he turned to evil, helped the Disney Empire hunt down and destroy all the cool Marvel movies made before 2008. He betrayed and murdered any sane and decent cinematic adaptation of 616 Marvel by reducing it to quippy humor, forgettable action sequences, and an antiseptic corporate gloss covering the whole thing. Now the good movies about interesting Marvel characters are all but extinct."

I hate to be that guy but: Spiderman 2 is NOT a great Comic Book Movie. Here are some of my problems with the movie: Peter being a pizza delivery boy AND at the Bugle at the same time (which never happened in the comics). Doc Ock didn't LOOK at all like the Comic Book Version of the character (for instance his hair in the comics was styled like Elton John's, and Doc Ock was NEVER a sympathetic villain nor did he have a wife) It is in this movie where Raimi's Sympathetic Villain fetish that got even worse in Spiderman 3, begins. I mean what is the point of Doc Ock having a wife that he NEVER had in the comics and worse still after she died wasn't even really a major influence on his character becoming a villain (Rachel's death in the Dark Knight and the influence on Harvey's character towards becoming Two Face in the Dark Knight is a far better example of this ) Doc Ock was more motivated by his EGO, his ARROGANCE and his REFUSAL to believe that he could have been wrong about his experiment, than her death. Peter's powers mysterious disappearing/reappearing whenever the plot needed it. MJ was a total slut in this running from her wedding to JJJ's son to Peter. Aunt May wasn't a real character in this. She was there just to get capture by Doc Ock at the Bank scene and to motivate Peter whenever he felt like giving up on being Spiderman. Doc Ock would have NEVER been given permission by New York City to conduct such a Dangerous experiment in the middle of Manhattan, and can someone tell me how that "Sun"/fusion ball didn't blind everyone that was close to it or vaporize everyone/everything that close to it, or even when it was dropped into the Water at the end when it was vaporizing metal??? The stupid Raindrops song scene. And the Elevator scene felt awkward, not funny. The Landlord character was another annoyance as was the daughter. And the Psychiatrist visit scene was stupid as well. Harry's scene with his dead father was pretty awful as well ("AVENGE ME!!!" "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!") i mean between this and Doc Ock's "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!", why do people criticize Darth Vader's "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" in Revenge of the Sith, but are silent about both Doc Ock's and Harry's hysterical "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Screams in this?
The Bank Fight was ridiculous and also shows another problem i have with this Doc Ock: How is Spiderman able to throw giant bags of gold coins/money at Doc Ock's head and he ISN'T knocked out???
And we are supposedly to believe that Aunt May could tolerable all of that grabbing being dropped and hanging onto that building SEVERAL TIMES without any serious health problems especially at her age???
Or in the Train Fight(and slightly before it) where Spiderman Punches and kicks Doc Ock in the FACE SEVERAL TIMES, and Doc Ock ISN'T seeing the stars or knocked out. Doc Ock may have mechanical limbs, but he is still a NORMAL HUMAN so Spiderman's Punches SHOULD HAVE KNOCKED HIM OUT OR SEVERELY DAMAGED HIM which it didn't. Also why didn't Spiderman and Doc Ock falling on the Train NOT create a major dent on the Train when they both fell from the Building??? Or how did Doc Ock Survive the fall undamaged since he doesn't have Spiderman's super human strength???
Also at 1:37 how did Doc Ock know when to duck when he was facing Spiderman the entire sequence???
The Crap about the people on the train NOT telling anyone about Peter identity when he was unmasked is unbelievable, especially in light of a scene earlier where a bum tried to haggle money out of JJJ for Spiderman's costume.
The Cafe scene with Peter and MJ is another major problem point in this movie for me: First of all Where did Doc Ock launch that car from since after it was launched we see Doc Ock descending to the Cafe from the surrounding buildings rooftops??? Second since at this point of the movie Doc Ock DIDN'T know that Peter was Spiderman, and was told by Harry before that he should question Peter about Spiderman, how did Doc Ock expect to question Peter about Spiderman since launching that car at Peter would have definitely KILLED HIM
Also at 2:41 how did Doc Ock survive getting electrocuted in the fight fight???
Some other problems are illustrated in this video:
Spiderman 2 is full of bullsh!t, and NOT that great of a Comic Book Movie.

The best superhero movie up until Iron Man and TDK. According to the list of best superhero movies of all time, it lags pretty far behind SMH. Personally, I’d place it higher, but that’s just me. You can’t argue with the Bayesian method. We’ve been assured that it’s validity is unimpeachable.
