...John Lennon was assassinated? The thing that I find especially hard to process is that he has now been gone for two more years than he was here. Also, that both of his sons have now got to greater ages than their father reached. Life can be so unfair...

Time for lots of tea and old movies Tea and old movies? You bet! But also plenty of dairy-free/plant-based yogurt and ice cream--very soothing to the throat without clogging up the nasal passages.

Thank you, Alpha and James. Actually, I have often felt worse. The symptoms are mostly those of a moderately bad cold--occasional barking coughs, stuffy/runny nose, a bit of sneezing. And I have no trouble breathing; nor have I experienced any gastric upsets (as yet, anyway). The worst part, though, is losing my senses of taste and smell: it's been as though someone had drawn a veil over the insides of my mouth and nose...but I think those senses are slowly coming back. Second worst is the fatigue. I'll feel industrious for a brief time and then--wham! "Y' know, I think I'll lie down for a while." This whole process, while not much fun, could all have been downright horrible...if I hadn't been vaccinated and boosted. I thought a lot about that last Thursday.

Since the three of us--my sister, my husband, and I--all have a problem with dairy, the usual screw-ups have resulted from the cook/server forgetting to leave off the cheese, the butter, or whatever originated in a cow. However, the most spectacular mistake I can remember was when the waitress brought us this humongous platter called "The Works" which none of us had ordered (I, for one, had not even noticed it on the menu) and swore up and down that we had indeed ordered that entree (or maybe it was an appetizer sampler; I'm not sure)--which was absolutely not true. For one thing, a couple of the items on that platter obviously contained cheese...so why would we have ordered something we couldn't eat? She kept insisting we'd ordered it, and when we continued our denials, she stormed off and brought back the manager. I can't say for sure that he believed us--though why would we lie?--but at least he didn't throw us out.
To this day, all of us wonder what happened, and how she could make such a mistake--and then keep insisting that we had ordered that platter. It was weird--and pretty upsetting, too.

Since nobody has posted on this thread since July, I think it's time to start a new topic. And since today (for a couple more hours here in Al's home state of California) is the 63rd birthday of "Weird Al" Yankovic, I thought it appropriate to make the next round of this game about the virtuoso accordionist and King of Parody. So:
13 Quotes From Songs by "Weird Al" Yankovic. Specify if lyric is from one of his originals (O) or a parody (P). If the latter, identify the song that his lyric parodies.
01. "Bob" (O [but a take-off on a certain folksinger-songwriter's style])
I man am regal A German am I Never odd or even If I had a hi-fi Madam I'm Adam Too hot to hoot No lemons no melon Too bad I hid a boot Lisa Bonet ate no basil Warsaw was raw Was it a car or a cat I saw [And that's just the first verse, folks! Three cheers for whoever figures out what all the lines have in common.]
