Very Americanised list. I'll try and restore a 'little' balance with some iconic photos. And my favourite:

The U.S. Olympic Hockey Team or Ali - Liston. Lots of great iconic photos.

Talk about sensory overload if you're a sports fan. Too many great ones to choose one favorite. I'm a New Englander so of course those resonate more with me. Orr is one of the all time classics, I have that picture on the wall in the den. A few notes: I like the Phelps photo because it erases all doubt that he won that race, despite conspiracy theorists' best efforts. I feel the Strug moment is underrated. She stuck the landing on a bum ankle which won the gold for the team but sacrificed any shot she had at continuing to compete for an individual medal.

I don't think any sports photo can be better than Ali.

I wonder if those basketball and hockey games were really that dark or is it just the film quality of the day that make it look that way.

I went through the list twice, and while there are plenty of good ones in there, I can't believe the author left this one out! Of the ones on the list, Tyree's helmet catch.

Very Americanised list. I'll try and restore a 'little' balance with some iconic photos. Some "beautiful" images you posted there, Manly Stanley. Love the one with Big Dunc, an all time classic. I really miss characters like him in todays Premier League, but I guess he would not have lasted for very long as if he had done something similar today, the unlucky player on the recieving end would probably have died out of shock, right there and then. I tried going in to the page/site with all these greatest sports images but it took me forever to just browse down to the first 3 ones as the page always seemed to re-load and lots of annoying commercials and all kind of stuff made it incredible slow so I decided to skip it and instead include some of my own favorites, starting with this "classic": I remember this actually more than the game itself, which I think ended up 3-1 in Manchester United's favor against Arsenal back in 2015/16, and where a young Marcus Rashford really begun to shine with several important goals/winners against top sides in the Premier League. However, this hilarious and very memorable situation/image have and will always "haunt" me as one of the incredible in a "did that really happen?" moments which took place during Louis van Gaal's uneven two season spell at Old Trafford. Who knows, maybe the dutchman will make a comeback sometime soon, and if I am not mistaken I think he was last quoted as saying he had recently gotten an "offer he couldn't refuse", so I guess we will just have to wait and see if there will be anymore of his "horny" football philosophy in the near future to come and who will be the "lucky" team that will have to endure his unpredictable approach to the beautiful game.

Would definitely love to see Van Gaal back in football, especially back in England, but not sure who would hire him that Louis would be interested in. Was certainly one of the most entertaining managers (well off the field anyway!).

Very Americanised list. I'll try and restore a 'little' balance with some iconic photos. Yeah, I assumed it meant the best sports photos from Sports Illustrated, but that's not what the headline says. They proclaim these are indeed the best ever, which even from an American perspective is hard to buy. No Y.A. Tittle bloodied up in the mud? No snow bowl photos? No Vinatieri kicking in the snow? Ali standing over Liston is the reigning classic of those, but I think my favorite that I'd never seen before was the fish within a fish.
