What if Scream 5 just ignored all the sequels and was just a continuation of the first movie only? The only downside would be the title would seem weird and we'd have to endure Jamie Kennedy again. Hey now, say what you want about Jamie Kennedy, but Randy was awesome. Actually, since making sequels that ignore other sequels is the new thing now, that's... actually a pretty good idea. Each Scream movie is a deconstruction of something (1 = slashers in general, 2 = sequels, 3 = trilogies, 4 = reboots), and what else could a 5th Scream movie deconstruct? I'd watch that movie.

As I said in the other thread Bruce Campbell vs Ghostface-you could come up with a reasonable argument that there is merit to that--but unless there is some kind of stunt casting or crossover-there is no good reason to do another Scream film. It was intended as a satirical commentary on slasher films--it does not have much room for new areas especially when it also has a tv series.
It's even more limited than Halloween and that is DOA.

All the characters could keep mentioning the deja vu feeling they keep having! 😁 Actually Jamie Kennedy in the Scream movies was one of my favorites, and his was the saddest and most shocking demise of all. 😭

I wonder where the characters would be if 2-4 didn't happen. Sidney'd probably have a grown kid or two. Dewey and Gale never got together. Randy is either a b movie director, or a jaded internet critic. Cotton's back in prison for another murder, probably another framejob so the Woodsboro justice department don't have to pay him for the first one.

Somebody let anthonyrocks know! (Or not…) Seriously, though the franchise does seem to be somewhat milked, you could probably do a pretty good satire on the horror movie trend going on now. It would have to go back to those satirical roots; 3 and 4 were fairly standard slashers, though 4 had some interesting ideas that the script didn’t develop. One idea I’ve had: Ghostface starts basing his killings on other famous horror movies, saying he’s trying to cash in other franchises. E.g., he kills a babysitter on Halloween night, he puts a hockey mask on over his Ghostface mask and kills a camp counselor, etc. There should also be a spoof of true-crime podcasters. Halloween ’18 tried to do that, but it didn’t do a good job with it. Also, someone needs to work on a better twist: the first one’s effective because you don’t (or at least I didn’t) see the two killers twist coming, but every one after that (other than 3) has had two killers. Maybe go all in and, Murder on the Orient Express-style, have the whole town of Woodsboro as Ghostfaces (infuriated that every time Sidney comes back there’s another string of murders)? That was actually gonna be Kevin Williamson's ending to Scream 3. But yeah, you make a good point that they haven't been able to match the two killers twist. In theory, 4 could have by making the new "main character" the killer, but Jill didn't have enough screentime or character development to really sell it. I think it'd be cool if they had two killers, but they were working separately. Ah, I actually think I knew this… Didn’t mean to plagiarize Williamson. I intended what I wrote as a joke, but there has to be some way to do it that works (?). Agreed about 4.

If they want a bunch of Ghostfaces then just have a musical.
"One! A chorus line of killers... every little stab we make..."

Have to see how closely connected it is to the first four films.

It seems like the sort of thing the Scream series might touch upon somehow, as an acknowledgement of what Halloween did, since the series follows the current horror trends of the times in which they're made. I'm fine with it being a sequel to the sequels, I love them all.
