A romantic comedy which details the romance between Shirayuki, an apprentice herbalist, and Zen, second prince of Clarines. While there is some political intrigue and good comedic turns, the story line rarely strays too far from the romance. When villains pop up, they are usually dealt with during the episode where they first appear. The second season tries to introduce more conflict but falls flat. Too many episodes are primarily filler that explains the backstory of some of the secondary characters which is remarkably uninteresting in most cases or simply irrelevant (Kiki is a noble who works as Zen's aid and bodyguard ... how exciting). Every episode features an overabundance of sappy string music to punctuate the romantic scenes, sometimes making the dialogue hard to hear. And Shirayuki and Zen are both just a bit too perfect despite attempts to show them dealing with doubts and fears. If you like romantic comedies, there is probably enough to keep you entertained for twenty-four episodes. If not ... well, you probably won't make it through the first season. Oh, and as for the title: Aside from the fact Shirayuki has red hair, it really makes no sense. There are no elements from the Snow White fairy tales present. No evil step mothers, no poison apples ... nothing.
