Sunday I went to Publix planning to buy 1/2 doz. eggs and all they had were a few cartons of 18 eggs, I went again this morning and still all they had were an even fewer cartons of 18 eggs. Anyone know whats going on?

Hmm. If your stores usually carry 1/2 dozen cartons, perhaps there's a "supply shortage," or a shipping problem/strike, in the southeast. I haven't seen that, here, on the west coast ... but, we don't have Publix.
Shortly after COVID eased, here, eggs shot up in price to $7-8, a dozen. That has eased, considerably. I bought 1 dozen, for "4 something," last week. There was a full array of "size selections," from 1/2 dozen, to the "super-sized."

I haven't noticed it here, but know that there have been 'shipping shortages' of other things. Maybe the store just hasn't recovered from Thanksgiving baking and now Christmas baking.
My hens usually go 'on strike' this time of year and only about half of them are laying. I still get 6-7 eggs a day, too many for us to use up. I give the extras to a nephew that bakes a lot and also take them to our chiropractor/receptionist.
