Imagine what the makers of "My Super Psycho sweet Sixteen" or "Aqua Slash" could do with it... Dare I say that it has potential. Ah well...

So there's that one, a horror themed game, and now another movie. This one is simply called Steamboat Willie, and will involve Mickey (or Willie in this movie) tormenting a boat full of ferry passengers. variety.com/2024/film/news/steamboat-willie-horror-film-mickey-mouse-public-domain-copyright-1235849861/At least this one has kind of a cool teaser image. I'm sure it'll suck just as bad, but it's not impossible to do something kinda fun with this stuff. Hell, the opening minutes of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey were fairly enjoyable until it gave up on the animation and went to straight forward, cheap, amateur, low rent slasher bullshit.

They definitely already filmed this in secret knowing about the rights going public domain beforehand and were just waiting for the right time to unleash it. I would not be surprised if that was the actual production history of this.

I would not be surprised if that was the actual production history of this. For sure. There's already a trailer so they must've been shooting a while ago. I don't know what the legality of that is. It may just be the release date because usually these things are about making money off of a copyrighted work, but if there's any issue with them working on it before they were allowed to that would be pretty funny.

I guess this trend of putting beloved cartoon characters and/or nursery rhyme characters into gory horror movies ain't dying off anytime soon. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Public domain just handed the unoriginal/childish/unimaginative brain a big plate of steaming crap to feast on. Should anybody be surprised that the film industry is going to be glutted with this garbage for months, possibly years, considering that most of it is populated by unoriginal/childish/unimaginative brains?

I don't think this gonna last for years. None of these have even come out yet and I think we're all already sick of the trend.

We have another decade or so until Superman, then Batman, then Wonder Woman enter the public domain in successive years. That's gonna be something.
