For me it is probably The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Probably The Shining. Hit close to home because my dad was an alcoholic and had the same hairline as Jack Nicholson. Once when I was like 7 he pulled his hair back like Jack and said "Heeee're's Johnny" and I ran and locked myself in the bedroom.

The Shining is very creepy though and is still in the top 10 scariest movies for me though.

Hereditary, with The Exorcist a close second.
Skinamarink would probably be number one if it were half an hour shorter and was released as a short film. There were multiple scenes that had me squirming and looking away, but it’s way too long.

Midsommar I find scarier than both. That movie sort of traumatized me.

Back when I first saw them when I was much younger, The Exorcist, or maybe Insidious. I'd imagine they might seem pretty tame if I saw them now.

I am immune to getting scared by horror movies normally, but right now the closest I can think of is either The Mist or Hereditary.

I found Hereditary not so much scary as much as one of the most psychologically distressing movies of the past decade. As an older brother, I can only imagine what I'd do in that situtation. Perhaps we can all agree Beau is Afraid is the least afraid-causing. Still a great film, though.

When the scene in Hereditary happened (which is one of the most disturbing scenes in any movie) I too thought to myself what would I do in that situation. I wonder what he would have done if he was sober.

As much as I love horror I only credit a few films that scare me but The Blair Witch Project always really freaked me out big time.

A tv miniseries called Intruders from 1992 about alien abduction. Directed by the guy who made Dark Shadows (never seen it but o believe it was popular) and written by the guy who would write Fire in the Sky a year later (which also has one of the scariest scenes in film history)

I honestly have no idea. If we went by which produced the most nightmares throughout my life, I'd have to go with The Bat (1959). The Blob (1958) would be a runner up, let's be real, it's just more believable as a mystery alien creature than a government experiment. And that's what gives it longevity, we have NO idea what's out in space, something someday COULD crash to Earth similar to that, we like to say it couldn't happen, but we don't know that for fact, we're really just counting on it being so.
On the other hand, when I was 16, the internet stranger segment of Campfire Tales actually had me searching my room with a knife that night.
Night of the Living Dead (1968) for some reason made me fear the possibility of zombies ironically more than Return of the Living Dead where they can't even be killed. The Night zombies could at least be killed.

The Shining scared the hell out of me as a kid, so did The Exorcist.
