Here is my wager, for the record:
If you believe in God and you're correct, you will spend eternity in Heaven as long as it's the correct religion, otherwise you burn in hell.
If you believe in God and there is no God, you wasted a potentially good life following rules that you need not have.
If you do NOT believe in God and you're wrong, you will likely be forgiven and spend eternity in Heaven anyways. Congratulations, you likely led an interesting life If you do NOT believe in God and there is no God, or you worshipped the wrong one you do care because you may now be in hell or you're just dead.
In conclusion, have fun with your life, be a good person and worry about death when you are dead.

How come God will forgive atheism but not worshipping the wrong God?

How come God will forgive atheism but not worshipping the wrong God? Maybe because the Christian deity is a jealous god, so one imagines when it is impossible to be jealous of no belief He can be of another deity competing for the affections of the faithful. (Of course though if Jehovah can do 'absolutely anything' then presumably He can be jealous of nothing) Exodus 20:4-5 “You must not make for yourselves an idol that looks like anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the water below the land. You must not worship or serve any idol, because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God. If you hate me, I will punish your children, and even your grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

How come God will forgive atheism but not worshipping the wrong God? This is the RFS board...critical thinking and common sense not required.

A few points: - Belief in God isn't religion in this context. - You'll need to be specific about the rules that a theist would be wasting his life by following. - If you don't agree that an atheist strives to be a good person merely to avoid prison, then you shouldn't say a theist strives to be a good person merely to avoid hell. I believe in God, but I'm not religious. What happens now?

A few points: - You'll need to be specific about the rules that a theist would be wasting his life by following. It depends on the theist of course, but combining 611 commandments which Moses taught the people, with the first two of the Ten Commandments which were the only ones directly heard from God, a total of 613 is reached. www.gotquestions.org/613-commandments.html Some of course are more sensible, and applicable today, than others. But for most people these days it is arguable that the requirement to worship God would be the most time wasting if there was no god to be worshipped. For some, nuns and monks or otherwise devoutly-challenged etc it can be especially demanding. From Muslims it is asked of several times a day. Yes but then I suppose the question is that, if one can lead a moral life and give oneself satisfactory purpose whilst knowing law and custom, all without worrying about what a god might think, then why consider the the idea of it at all?

Ah yes, but this wager rests on us not assuming that God is the Christian God. But in its formulation it only mentions God. It says 'If you believe in God and you're correct, you will spend eternity in Heaven as long as it's the correct religion, otherwise you burn in hell.' So perhaps the Christian God is indeed more harsh on believers of false Gods than he is atheists as you say. The above would then apply if the Christian God exists. However, what if the real God isn't the Christian God, but one who is ok with someone believing in the wrong God but hates atheists? Then the wager falls apart because any faith at all would be better than atheism. And as the wager starts off at a point of not knowing the existence of God or his nature if he does exist, we can't assume that's not the case.
