Give an updated ranking before Furiosa releases in a few weeks.
1. Fury Road - 9/10 2. Road Warrior - 8/10 3. Mad Max - 7/10 4. Thunderdome - 7/10
This is a consistently good series imo.

I watched them back in 2015 after Fury Road came out and wasn't crazy about any of them. I rewatched all of them last month and sadly still don't like the first three that much (I think they're okay), but I did enjoy Fury Road this time.
Fury Road - 7.5/10 (6/10 before) Mad Max - 6/10 (stayed the same) Mad Max 2 - 6/10 (5.5/10 before) Beyond Thunderdome - 6/10 (5/10 before)

I am in the minority in that I don't much care for this franchise besides Fury Road and enjoy Beyond Thunderdome more than The Road Warrior. I like the Humongous though. The funny thing is Mel Gibson is one of the my favorite actors, but I don't really care for him as Mad Max. I don't care for Tom Hardy as Mad Max either, but I am a big fan of Charlize Theron as Furiosa.

The Road Warrior - 8/10 Fury Road - 8/10 Mad Max - 7/10 Beyond Thunderdome - 7/10
I don't remember too much from the first film, but it was a fine action thriller with well-staged car-racing sequences. The Road Warrior improves on the action and stunt work although it's light on plot. I personally consider it the best installment of the series. Beyond Thunderdome just sits there. It doesn't progress Max's character journey and he ends where he begins, being a lone road warrior. Tina Turner, however, was great in her part. Fury Road is still a tremendous visual experience we don't get too much these days. Charlize Theron as Furiosa is a welcome addition to the cast.

It’s interesting to me that this board seems somewhat cool on Fury Road.
I just finished it up and that last chase sequence is unreal. I have no idea how Miller shot 90% of it.

I can see how the movie essentially being one long chase scene with not a ton of focus on story or characters might not appeal to everybody, but it's done amazingly well. Few movies are as thrilling for as long. I'm still bummed Miller didn't win the Oscar.

Though I think there’s plenty of characterization in their actions throughout the chase, but I get some people don’t like character-building done that way. It’s borderline how I prefer it nowadays. I’m fine with Inarritu winning Best Director (I like The Revenant more than most), but I definitely would’ve given it to Miller.
