I still don't understand why Gridiron is called American Football when they spend 95% of the game holding the ball and there are only like 3 instances in which it will actually be kicked (and I do like the game). Really? Australians refer to their sport as "football", not "Australian Rules Football". The Irish don't use "Gaelic Football" and the Canadians don't use "Canadian Football". All of it evolved from Rugby Football. And when "Gridiron" became the only brand in town, just "football" was good enough.

If this is to honour or mimic the IMDb boards at all then sub-boards would be a step in the wrong direction. And football is football to almost the whole world, not soccer. I still don't understand why Gridiron is called American Football when they spend 95% of the game holding the ball and there are only like 3 instances in which it will actually be kicked (and I do like the game). 'Soccer' is a British term, a play on the word 'association' that's almost as old as the sport itself. I don't understand why it's so offensive to call it that. Football is a general term for a family of sports with incestuous beginnings all around the same time. It means different things to different people depending on where they are in the world. If we're going to have sub-forums I see no reason why one type gets to use the basic 'football' without a qualifier in front. They should all have qualifiers.

Several people have requested subforums to be added here. Which sports do you guys think need their own forums, and how do you propose I deal with the international differences between football and soccer? no many of us would end up not speaking to our cousins from either side of the Atlantic and would harm the board big time, keep it as it is. Its its only chance of success, and to keep this community from IMDB going.

An idiotic idea that will hasten the demise of this board.
As an American I am fascinated by foreign posts about their sports. Soccer, cricket, darts, and male sodomy....it is important for us Americans to know what the Euros are up to.
No effing way should there be sub-boards. It is all sports! (Except for that male sodomy stuff. Foreigners treat that as a sporting activty, we in Trump land grab pussy and don't approve of male sodomy.)

Several people have requested subforums to be added here. Which sports do you guys think need their own forums, and how do you propose I deal with the international differences between football and soccer? I vote for no separate sub boards. I think there's too many as it is. If there's a topic here that doesn't interest me I just won't click on it, but it doesn't bother me if others post about it.

I know the origin of the word, thanks. No problem. I just wanted to remind everyone that soccer is an acceptable name for the sport, despite the naysayers.

Football seems to be the name for the most popular sport in whatever country plays it.
Like in Aus - They call Aussie rules football - football (maybe)
in the US - American Football = Football
in the Uk and many other nations football = football.
There is something about the name football that gets people passionate.
a games a games a game.
even still we want NO DIVISION.
