www.yahoo.com/entertainment/star-trek-4-j-clarkson-210654919.html S.J. Clarkson has been tapped to direct “Star Trek 4,” making her the first female to helm a film in the “Star Trek” franchise.
Paramount Pictures had no comment. The studio announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that it was planning a fourth movie with Chris Hemsworth, who appeared as Chris Pine’s father in 2009’s “Star Trek.” Zachary Quinto is also set to return. Paramount is developing another “Star Trek” film from J.J. Abrams and Quentin Tarantino, but sources say it is still being written and would come after the fourth movie.
While details on “Star Trek 4” are vague, sources say a key plot point sees Pine’s character running into his father (Hemsworth) in a time travel ploy.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay penned the screenplay. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will produce through Bad Robot Productions, while David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance Media will executive produce.
The original 2009 reboot “Star Trek” earned $385 million worldwide, while its sequel “Star Trek: Into Darkness” made $467 million globally in 2013. The third, “Star Trek Beyond,” brought in $343 million worldwide in 2016.
Clarkson is best known for her work on the TV scene with shows such as “Dexter,” “Bates Motel,” “Orange is the New Black,” and “Jessica Jones.” She recently directed a handful of episodes for Marvel’s “The Defenders.”
Clarkson is repped by WME.

Still wondering how they'll handle the Chekov situation. My guess is Jayla will return and take over or there will be dialogue that says he's on assignment/been reassigned.

**There we go, the father atonement angle again.
I tell ya, you can set a clock to these worn out and predictable themes.

Um...yeah. We'll see about that. But first off, I don't think the box office success of Beyond affords them the ability to slate multiple movies. Second, I don't think it's a coincidence that a female director has been tapped after QT has been dragged through the mud as a choke-fetishist woman endangerer who's worked his entire career under Harvey Weinstein.
That QT movie is likely not happening. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

Well in The Original " STAR TREK" TV Series, Chekov actually did get reassigned at one point (he later returned to the Enterprise) so they would be following canon for him if they decided to do that. As far as who takes over for him, I think that it will be either Jaylah (that is actually how her name is spelled) or Saavik.

Into Darkness made more than the 2009 film, how about that. Glad to hear they're including Hemsworth via time travel, I was worried they were going to resurrect him somehow.

I think it would make sense for Jayla to take Chekov place. That is, of course, if she doesnt suffer the same fate as Carol Marcus...

That is, of course, if she doesnt suffer the same fate as Carol Marcus... Yeah what was up with that? They set her up as Kirk's love interest then don't bring back Alice Eve? I thought she did fine.

I also have to say that I am Not at all Happy that "STAR TREK 14" and Quentin Tarantino's "STAR TREK 15" will Both be involving Time Travel.
We have already had 4 "STAR TREK" Movies (THE VOYAGE HOME, GENERATIONS, FIRST CONTACT, and STAR TREK 2009) that had Time Travel in them.

Star Trek's television series and movies have featured so much time travel, one has to wonder why it isn't sometimes called "Time Trek"... Don't get me wrong here, I have liked most of the Time Travel stories that they have done... But, come on... If you look at... All the amazing things scientists have learned about space... All of the stories that Star Trek has already done, that can be redone in new ways now... and All of the other science fiction movies & TV shows that have been done before... Why can't the writers come up with all kinds of stories, without having to resort to creating another Time Travel film?

I blame Alice Eve not returning as Carol Marcus (She was indeed under contract to return) completely on Simon Pegg. He wrote the script for " STAR TREK BEYOND" and so bringing her back was completely up to him and he chose not to do it. Of course all of that being said though, I did still actually like " STAR TREK BEYOND".

I enjoy the new / reboot version of Star Trek way more than Disney's Star Wars so I'm excited about this. Here's hoping it'll be another good installment & I wish the new director a lot of luck!
The only thing I didn't particularly care about Beyond was the main villain (Elba is usually really good but he was pretty lame here imo). Here's hoping Paramount doesn't fuck around with the main villain this time around. Who that would be? No clue right now but hopefully some big time A Lister .
Oh and ST fans shouldn't give up on Tarantino's ST just yet , cause he is busy at the moment with that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood film (comes out in 2019) . I think he'll still get around to doing a ST film in the 2020s (or at least I hope so!)
