The makers of TRON made a mistake that is still happening in blockbusters: Relying too much on visual effects. You shouldn't do that, because: 1) You don't know if they will stand the test of time. The effects here have aged so badly that not even a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon could do something. 2) You end up prioritizing them over more important aspects, like story and characters. Here, neither of them get a proper introduction. Once the amazement of the design wears off, the plot gets boring. The performances are weak (Bruce Boxleitner's is very bad). There are some moments (like FLYNN yelling "No!" during his 1st duel and RAM saying goodbye to FLYNN before dying) that are unintentionally funny. 3/10 The music score in TRON PART 2: LEGACY is very good. It has better visual effects than its predecessor (not that it was hard to do that) and it doesn't rely on them that much (a big number of objects aren't CGI). It also has better performances, cinematography and action sequences, but it never amounts to anything more than an exercise in style over substance... and the style isn't even that good. In the 1st installment, the characters' costumes and cycles were gray with lights that were either blue or orange, while other objects had different colors. Here, everything is black with lights that are either blue or orange. We see different shades of those 2 colors (which help us to tell things apart), but they're still only 2 colors. The movie only looks good when both colors are in the same shot. When it's only one, the images aren't very pleasing... and don't get me started on Jeff Bridges' "young face." Depending on the scene, the personality of the warrior QUORRA changes from badass to child full of wonder to empty being who delivers exposition but doesn't talk about what she wants or how she feels. 4/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog (in English, in Spanish or in Italian).
