Probably my favorite movie released within the past 10 years. After striking out with Death Proof, Quentin Tarantino seemed to enter a more artistic and creative streak that followed with Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. The influence of Sergio Leone is felt throughout the opening act, which calls to mind the first scene with Angel Eyes from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. It's a master class in escalating tension as is a later scene set in a French bar. As an alternate history lesson, it is darkly satisfying how Hitler and the Third Reich meet their end. Brad Pitt's scene attempting to mimic an Italian accent is comedy gold. Hell, I even like the cameo from Mike Myers.

Such a brilliant combination of every cinematic medium. It all comes together to create one of a kind cinematic cocktail. Just rewatched it a few weeks ago and I would honestly put it right up there with Pulp Fiction.

7/10 – It has its moments but the ending is marred by the director's juvenile fascination with death and pyrotechnics. Take away Christoph Waltz and the film is a 5/10. (Same can be said of Django Unchained.)

I loved the opening scene. The rest of it pretty much destroyed my interest in Tarantino forever.

I absolutely despise this movie. Period movies with blatant intentional historical inaccuracies are worthless to me. Today's audiences are ignorant of history as it is without this movie confusing them further. Watch "The Darkest Hour" instead.

If modern audiences are that ignorant to not know Hitler actually died robbing a 7/11, they are truly lost.

Disliked “Basterds” and hated “Django” so have not seen “The Hateful Eight,” having sworn off Tarantino. IM not-so HO, the opening scene of Basterds is justly famous. But then the title Basterds appear (supposedly Jewish avengers) led by Brad Pitt whose performance is all caricature with not a single moment of truth in it. I know that QT has a huge fan following who will accept just about any wild thing he throws out there…but I’m not one of them and just couldn’t swallow IB.
Django Unchained is made under the mistaken notion, so prevalent in Hollywood, that, in a pastiche or satire of a genre, an excess – an overdoing - of that genre’s tropes are automatically satirical and/or funny and/or entertaining. Thus, a rambling plot, piles of dead bodies, buckets of blood, a surfeit of human suffering, and a consistent gleeful repetition of the n-word (and don’t talk to me about historical accuracy because Tarantino himself has absolutely no concern for it). Except for an astonishing performance by Samuel L.0Jackson, “Django Unchained” is, literally, a bloody bore. Oh, one other factor I did enjoy: Franco Nero (who played the title role in the authentic “Django” from 1966) has a cameo.

My first Quentin Tarantino movie. Not a bad war flick. Hans Landa remains Christoph Waltz's best performance.

I liked Death Proof just fine but I felt this was a real return to form after the horrible kill bill films and the modest intentions of death proof. The cinema experience of seeing Inglorious is one of my favourites.

...also watch "Race"(2016) instead. It's superior to "Basterds" and never gets talked about.

Eli Roth & some of the other Basterds were annoying in this (and flat out bad actors). I wish QT didn't cast Roth in this cause he flat out sucks . (ditto on his role in Death Proof as well). I know they are friends in real life but come on , give the role to a more seasoned actor for Christ sakes!
However, despite some of the things I didn't care for, it does have quite a bit going for it. It introduced the world to Waltz. The opening scene is terrifying (say what you want about Tarantino but the man can build tension like no other) . The bar basement scene was another great tension build up scene . And lastly, Brad Pitt was badass in this. You could tell he had a blast playing that role.
7.5/10

It’s very good. The opening scene is the best scene of QTs career, imo.

I have met people who actually believed that Hitler was killed in a movie theater, and once there was this guy who asked me how much the killin' Nazi business contributed to Germany's GDP. ![](https://78.media.tumblr.com/e70a374a76b6f9a1c9fbea69a033c403/tumblr_nisaxiAx4z1u8hcaoo1_500.gif)
