Another long-time cast member will be exiting Arrow this year. Paul Blackthorne will not be returning to the flagship CW super show as a series regular for season 7, EW has learned. Details surrounding how his character, Mayor Quentin Lance, will be written out are being kept under wraps. An original character since the pilot, Lance has undergone quite the transformation over the last six seasons. As the father of the presumed dead Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), Quentin long held a grudge against Oliver (Stephen Amell) for getting her killed on the Queen’s Gambit. He also initially despised Oliver’s vigilante alter ego the Hood before slowly coming to work in tandem with the Emerald Archer, eventually discovering Oliver and the Green Arrow were one and the same. Despite his struggles with alcoholism in the wake of losing both of his daughters — Laurel to Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) and Sara initially at the hands of Thea (Willa Holland) before being resurrected — Quentin went on to be deputy mayor of Star City. He recently succeeded Oliver as mayor after the latter was arrested. Blackthorne’s exit comes on the heels of Holland also leaving Arrow back in March. Though the show was recently renewed for a seventh season, season 6 is typically when actors’ initial contracts are up, hence these two exits. ew.com/tv/2018/05/02/arrow-paul-blackthorne-exit/

I'm going to take a stabin the dark and guess that Diaz kills him, which is not only the final straw for Laurel trusting Diaz, but is her catalyst to become the hero Quentin wanted her to be.

Yeah heard abot this a few days back, well sort of, Pagey on youtube did a spoiler vid about how theres going to be a character death with a funeral and his guess assumption it was going to be for Lance to free up cash for contract renewals,, sad to see Blackthorne go but at the same time his character has been treading water for a while now sadly.

They made a mistake by killing Laurel and now they're making another mistake by bringing her back.

He'll be back. They always are. If the island blowing up couldn't kill them nothing will.

Now. He'll stay dead. Every middle aged character on this show is incapable of resurrection.

Well we can't have anything nice. We might come to expect better and they prefer to be lazy then give two shits about their job.

I am not particularly a fan of the way they brought her back and if they make Black Siren into the new Black Canary it is going to look kinda silly but I just like seeing all the Katie Cassidy haters pissed off 'cause they truly deserve this after the constant shit they put on her and abusing her on Twitter and payback is a bitch.

Too bad. He's one of the best things on the show. I never thought he was a bad character. I just don't see what else they can do with him at this point that they haven't already done and up until they put him with Black Siren this season it didn't seem like they had much for him to do and he was just a character that existed in the background when they wanted somebody for the other characters to talk to. I remember seeing him in 'Lipstick Jungle' before 'Arrow' and he looks really different now than he did when he was in that.

Before Arrow, I remember seeing him playing a bad guy in the short-lived series The Gates with Rhona Mitra. And before that as a bad guy in the TV series 24. It was nice to see him playing a good guy for a change in Arrow. I thought Paul Blackthorne always sold the emotional moments involving Quentin and either of his daughters.

He was in '24.' I completely forgot about that. There were actually a few actors who were in '24' that have gone on to have roles in other shows I didn't realise until I watched the show from the beginning again and both actors who play Castiel and Crowley were in '24' and the actor who played Curtis was in 'Arrow' along with 'Continuum' and 'Dark Matter.' They also had the actor who played Tony in an episode of 'Supergirl.'

I hope this is it what they do. I just don't want them to have Quentin leave like Thea and open the door to another return. They should kill him for emotional impact, and let the dead stay dead.

I can’t remember his name now but I am pretty sure he was the main villain in Season 3 and he was friends with Jack and worked with him for many years before he was at CTU and they have to capture his daughter to stop him and Kim has to pretend to be her. it is funny we are talking about '24' now 'cause it was just announced a new series of '24' is on the way and it is going to have a female lead. I would love it if they made a proper sequel to 'Live Another Day' with Kate Morgan as the main stair rescuing Jack but I think Yvonne is too busy with 'The Handmaid's Tale' to do it so they will be going with somebody else. They might make Kim Bauer the main star this time and have her become a CTU agent like her Father was. I remember reading that was the original plan for her character but Elisha Cuthbert left to pursue a movie career. I am hoping they bring back more characters this time and we have Chloe, Tony, Kim, Aaron, Adam, Mike and Jack all appear in it.
