...classifies Netflix originals? Here's the thing: Netflix.com classifies its originals as projects that they distribute but didn't produce. To me, that's a Netflix exclusive, while a Netflix original is a project that they produced. Hell, the "original" tag also appears on projects that Netflix distributes only in some countries, even though they were shown in theatres or TV in other countries.
Why does this matter? Because I want to judge them fairly. When I watch movies that were made for TV or released direct to video, I know that there are different quality standards. Something produced by Netflix will probably have a similar quality. I think MUDBOUND is a good example. Its Oscar-nominated cinematography proves that it was intended for the big screen.
