Watergate. Mr. Nixon was in trouble because of Tapes, a bunch of people got massacred on Saturday night and I remember saying “Haldeman and Ehrlichman and Dean, oh my!” Until I drove everyone insane.

Elvis is dead. That is the first story I vividly remember on the news. Although maybe it was the Enterprise shuttle launch. I recall seeing Deforest Kelley with Star Trek dolls (as in toys, not Leslie Parrish and Susan Denberg).

The last few televised McCarthy hearings, I was about 4 1/2 years old , I just remember the name and a bunch of serious looking men sitting around, I guess my oldest brother watched them whenever they were on, I was bored I'm sure.

At 8 months of age, learning that Gerber was contemplating dropping Banana (with Tapioca!) from their line of baby foods. Talk about living on pins and needles for the next 4 months !!! SAVE FERRIS

Princess Diana's funeral, my mom filled up 2 tapes with the coverage, I didn't know who she was or what had happened but even at 7 years old it was monumental.

Cyclone Tracy striking the city of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, on Christmas Eve, 1974.
Due to the era, the time of year and Darwin's isolation from the rest of the country, it was Christmas Night before the first details started to leak out to the rest of Australia.
Tracy killed 71 people and caused $837 000 AUD in damage. By modern standards, that's $6 410 000 000 AUD, or $4 940 000 000 USD. It destroyed more than 70% of Darwin's buildings, including 80% of its houses.
