OldAussieOf course I am as to be anti-gun is borderline anti-American. I would rather be armed than not-armed in a situation like that when someone is attacking me in a life threatening manner. my chances of making it would be much higher if I had a gun than not, especially given I am smaller than most guys so my chances of using brute force to overpower the bad guy ain't the greatest but with a gun, physical size is removed from the equation. it helps level the playing field with a gun. While He's against violence(obviously), self-defense is a legitimate thing along with sport/hunting etc. basically He would not be outright against guns like many liberals basically are as guns are not outright bad/sinful.

Let's keep this away from politics and religion. There are two boards for that. Geez. I hear enough of this crap from my Communist uncle and my Fascist cousin. I don't need to hear it constantly from internet wizards that seem to know everything even though this thread started as a "Things I'll never understand" To get back to the intent of the thread: I'll never understand how "Fifty Shades" sold millions of copies and was green lit for film adaptions. I'll never understand how someone figured out how to move all those huge stones on top of one another to make the pyramids. You ain't the boss of me

I never understand why anyone would feel guilty about movies or tv shows they like.
I also don`t understand why people keep watching things they don`t like.

*The gun culture in the US. Living in a country where guns in general are illegal and legal gun ownership is very difficult, I can't comprehend the idea of it being normal to just be able to buy a gun. But I guess that's just a difference in culture and what you're used to. *One more thing about the US, the extreme obsession with politics. It seems everything revolves around politics and the party someone supports. It's almost as if you pledge alliegance to a party and if you're not supporting the same party you're immediately an enemy. People defend everything their party says even when they don't agree with certain things. And people bring up politics in almost every conversation, even when it's not really related to politics or at least shouldn't be related, like science f.e. climate change. Actually the idea of only 2 main parties seems weird to me, but just like the first point that probably depends on what your used to. *People who believe in the most ridiculous conspiracy theories that can clearly be disproven. *People who can only watch a movie once and don't like to rewatch them, even with movies you love. *People hating things (f.e. certain music or movie genres) without ever actually listening to it or watching it. *Franchise rivalry, especially Marvel and DC. It's basically the same as the politics point, but here it's even worse. Sometimes the arguments between Marvel and DC fans ruin the fun vibe and hype surrounding a superhero movie for me. *Not so much something I don't understand, but imagining living in a country without universal healthcare sounds scary. If something serious happens to you your survival basically depends on how much money you have. *School uniforms *Why I'm never able to sleep when I need to in the evening and I can't stay awake when I need to pay attention in the morning. *2001: A Space Odyssey. But I guess that's kinda the point. *Obsession with wrestling. I love almost every sport, but wrestling is the one sport I don't enjoy watching at all. *The fact that Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock both haven't won an Oscar. *That it took Roger Deakins a bazillion times before finally winning best cinematography. *The existence of The Emoji Movie. *People who are afraid of flying. I know people in my family who are, but I personally love flying and the idea of being in a plane. *The fact that sigarettes, which kill so many people per year, are still legal while many other drugs are illegal. I'd broaden it to the appeal of drugs in general. I've never felt the need to use drugs in the slightest. *People who don't like Chinese and/or Japanese food. That's the best thing in the world (Italian and Mexican food is also amazing).

Never really been a gun person (I mean, I support gun rights but never really had a desire to own one) but recently I've been going to a gun range with my buddies to blow up clay birdies and it turns out it's a fucking blast. Super expensive hobby though, you can easily blow through $1000 just in a span of a couple days.

Things I don't understand:
- Donald Trump being elected President and that many people like him. Ever since his campaign trail, I never understood how any reasonable person could look at this imbecile and think he's presidential material. He makes me miss George W. Bush!
- Extreme gun nuts. I have no problem with those who wish to own guns, go hunting and attend shooting ranges, but I still feel there should be restrictions and control for those trying to buy them. I wish to live in a world where I don't have to worry for the lives of my family, friends and fellow citizens just because some nutcase feels he's having a bad day.
- People who bash all of hip-hop music for being sexist, violent garbage with no musical talent. If you don't like the genre fine, but to make such a generalization is ignorant. There's a lot of hip-hop that isn't like that at all and many rappers believe it or not are musically trained and can play instruments. The art of rapping is also harder than it looks and takes an amount of skill.
There's a lot of sexism and violent content in hard rock/heavy metal music, but I won't dismiss all of those genres just because certain artists revel in it.
- Snobby posters in film forums who bash on popular movies/bands/books just to feel "different" and "edgy"
- Racists/sexists/homophobes
- People who talk about how they hate 'political correctness', then use it as an excuse to bully/insult others based on their ethnicity, gender, orientation, religious beliefs, etc.

- People who don't have a desire to see a film based off its genre. - People who boycott films because of the sin of a actor/producer etc... (Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey etc...) - People who don't like films in general (I cannot comprehend how some people just don't care for films at all.) - How people often don't like others based on their political views. - How people take politics so fucking personally. - How people sleep on their back. I've never been able to do it. I've always only been able to sleep on my stomach. - Celebrity worship, and obsession. - People who feel the need to control how other (law abiding) people live their lives by imposing their moral code on them. And this is coming from someone who's a Catholic and conservative politically. - In relation to the previous one, there is one exception and that's on the subject of abortion (I hate bringing this up because it's such a touchy subject here in the states, people who rip you to shreds over it. Or at least where I live which is a top contender for the most liberal city in perhaps the most liberal state). I've never understood how people justify abortion as it's just outright evil. - How people are okay with being late to things. I always am early to everything I attend. - Kinda going off how people take politics personally, people who get offended by things that don't perfectly match exactly what their thoughts are at that exact moment. Or just people who get offended in general. - Wes Anderson - Modern art - Why American football is so popular. - How we don't have more fantasy movies out there. Seriously, there's LOTR, Pan's Labyrinth and maybe a few others? But that's it. It's my favorite genre, I want more of it. - Snapchat. I mean, I have sc and I use it pretty much everyday. But I don't understand why people feel the need to snap every damn thing. Most kids my age have like a 700,000 snap score, or some ridiculously high number like that. - The amount of luck it took for me to exist. Just insane when you think about it. - Fanbase wars between the MCU and DCEU.

With me personally, it's the issue of claustrophobia that factors in. Any suggestions for how to overcome it? It's not really the claustrophobia for me but I had an extremely bad experience of flying just from WA to CA (so like a two hour flight) where the turbulence was so bad I thought I was gonna die. Legit the most frightened I've ever been in my life.

The obsession over box office revenue That was the first thing that came to my mind when I opened the thread. Why do so many people who don't have any stake in it feel so excited at the prospect of movie A beating movie B in the domestic box office or on opening weekend numbers or in any other metric? Message boards for any high-profile movie are filled with such discussions. If you were not involved in the making of the movie, why do you care?

@ohheybro
Stupid, how?
what I said sounds pretty well thought out. I don't see 'stupid' in that at all. what I said about Jesus, I can't really see your coming up with something to say I am wrong and the whole 'knife vs AK-47' situation sounds quite reasonable if you ask me as who would not want to be armed if someone is attacking you in a life threatening manner? ; where's the 'stupidity'?
hell, you did not even give any counter-argument either as at least two out of the three things I said is going to be difficult for you to counter which I suspect is why you just had your knee jerk reaction and called me stupid.

Can be movie related or otherwise
The celebrity obsessed culture. Who's wearing what? Who is dating who? Who gives a fuck? The ending to 2001 Planet of the Apes The gun obsessed culture. Was reading an article earlier about the recent NRA convention and how religion plays heavily into clinging to their weapons. Marijuana remains illegal while cigarettes and alcohol, which knowingly kill people, is legal. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King wins all of its 11 Oscar nominations but wasn't even nominated for cinematography. The appeal of The Big Bang Theory TV show. Cringe, man. Nothing but cringe.
Hear hear!! I think that about wraps it up for me. If I can think of anything else, I'll contribute.

"Thade went back in time before Marky-Mark". OK, yeah. That's what the ending is implying. That is pretty clear. Yes, Exactly. The timeline REVERSES between planetary systems. Earth: Chimp leaves. Mark Leaves. Ship Leaves. Apes: Ship Arrives. Mark Arrives. Chimp Arrives... Apes: Mark Leaves. Thade Leaves. Earth: Thade Arrives. Mark Arrives (Before the time period the Chimp originally left). If Thade even knew how to work the pod, how could he know how to time travel?Thade didn't know how to time travel. The Anomaly was a disruption, not only in space. But in time as well.Wasn't Thade trapped in some room and couldn't get out? How could Thade get out of the room? How could Thade reach the pod? How could nobody see Thade escape let alone go for the pod if he could get out of that room? How could Thade even know how to work the pod if attempting to escape? If Thade even knew how to work the pod... But the problem is you're not explaining... Yes, the writers did not explain how the ending of the film, involving Thade, was even possible. You are right, it should not have happened. I guess that part was going to be explained in the sequel that was never explained MADE. In the end, it leaves too many questions and not enough answers (let alone any answers at all). Yes, this was the big problem with the ending of the film... While it was an interesting surprise ending... It was too big of a leap to make.
