Can be movie related or otherwise
The celebrity obsessed culture. Who's wearing what? Who is dating who? Who gives a fuck? The ending to 2001 Planet of the Apes The gun obsessed culture. Was reading an article earlier about the recent NRA convention and how religion plays heavily into clinging to their weapons. Marijuana remains illegal while cigarettes and alcohol, which knowingly kill people, is legal. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King wins all of its 11 Oscar nominations but wasn't even nominated for cinematography. The appeal of The Big Bang Theory TV show. Cringe, man. Nothing but cringe.

In regards to Apes 2001, people just have some half-assed explanation for the ending. "Thade went back in time before Marky-Mark". OK, yeah. That's what the ending is implying. That is pretty clear. But the problem is you're not explaining how Point A went to Point B. You're just repeating Point B again.
Wasn't Thade trapped in some room and couldn't get out? How could Thade get out of the room? How could Thade reach the pod? How could nobody see Thade escape let alone go for the pod if he could get out of that room? How could Thade even know how to work the pod if attempting to escape? If Thade even knew how to work the pod, how could he know how to time travel? In the end, it leaves too many questions and not enough answers (let alone any answers at all).

I think it didn't get nominated since Andrew Lesnie won before for Fellowship. A lot of wins felt like they were wins for all three films since all three films were shot simultaneously.

How the T-Rex got in the Visitor's Center without anyone seeing it let alone hearing it.
Why Lex turned on that flashlight when the T-Rex attacked the cars.

I'm more interested in the huge drop on the side of the T-Rex paddock. That's never really explained with how the T-Rex just stomped out minutes earlier.

The obsession over box office revenue It's validation and often to justify a crappy movie's existence. I'm glad each new Transformers movie is making less and less money. Then again, something high class like Dredd, makes only dimes.

in relation to movies... it boggles my mind how some people can enjoy plenty of movies to a 'supposedly' higher degree. but for me the true gems tend to be quite minimal. but I have a feeling many people on IMDb tend to score movies higher than how they actually feel about them. basically I think many don't use the scoring system properly in the sense that average/forgettable should be a 5/10 and then goes up and down fairly evenly from there based on your enjoyment of the movie. the vast majority of movies are a mild positive AT THE MOST (i.e. 6/10). but with IMDb it seems plenty of people routinely hand out 6's and higher. like I figure once you have seen plenty of movies you can generally tell what's of real worth and what's just-another-movie sort of thing and I rate accordingly. Basically those in power want to remove guns from the common person is the bottom line which is obviously a bad thing. I think they removed those from Austria back in the Hitler days claiming it was all good etc and then by the time they realized what was doing on, it was too late to fight back. some might say that won't happen here in the USA... but it's simply not worth the risk. besides... they are legitimate uses for guns like hunting/sport etc. democrats say they are not against guns, because it would look bad for them (i.e. make them anti-2nd amendment), but it's pretty obvious they are, or at least a good enough portion of them are. alcohol is only bad when abused. in moderation it's clearly safer than marijuana/cigs as that's smoke going into your lungs which will likely have a negative effect on your health in the long run where as alcohol won't when used in moderation. but people being people, they tend to abuse alcohol and then it can be a major problem. but with that said... I can't see many who are hardcore against marijuana as it's not like hard drugs which are just flat out bad for society. I am not really for marijuana but it's not something I would be heavily against either and may have some positive uses in some limited cases. Hell, I would apply that to a easy majority of shows on the major networks as once you get used to seeing decent movies the quality is just not there on your typical shows on ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX (and the like) as they are a dime-a-dozen. basically average at best with maybe a rare exception once in a while. them1ghtyhumphThat takes a whole new perspective if you believe in God because then you would understand the point of life here on earth. remove God from the equation and life can seem pointless.

Let's keep this away from politics and religion. There are two boards for that. Geez. I hear enough of this crap from my Communist uncle and my Fascist cousin. I don't need to hear it constantly from internet wizards that seem to know everything even though this thread started as a "Things I'll never understand"
To get back to the intent of the thread:
I'll never understand how "Fifty Shades" sold millions of copies and was green lit for film adaptions.
I'll never understand how someone figured out how to move all those huge stones on top of one another to make the pyramids.

1. How over 62 Million Dumb@$$es voted in 2016 to make an EPIC Dumb@$$ be President of the United States.
2. The Bad Acid Trip that Keir Dullea (Dave Bowman) went on at the End of "2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY".

1. People who are determined to debate politics and religion when there’s no need to debate politics and religion. Where’d decency and decorum go again?
