I hate reboots and remakes and prequels and midquels and sequels to classic films that don't need it.
However, there are those films that misfired and had 'potential'. Lets flip the script for a moment and list films that could have been better and need a remake.
1. "Waterworld" (1995) That film is still fun IMHO, but it's not a classic. It's got potential to be the "Mad Max" of the water. A post apocalyptic world where the Polar Ice Caps melted and people live at sea.
Any more Movies that fit this criteria?

People are liable to jump down my throat for this but, The Exorcist needs a remake. It would be great if were in the subtle vein of The Exorcism Of Emily Rose.

I want a remake of Dead End Drive In but remade as a musical along the lines of Repo The Genetic Opera

I think The Exorcism Of Emily Rose is a better movie than The Exorcist. It's an easier film to watch, but not nearly as effective. The Exorcist stands alone on the summit of horror films. There is no other film that is as effectively scary. It is so effective, so well made that I don't even want to watch it again.

It has horrible pacing which is probably why so many find it startling because they were about to fall asleep when something finally happened.

I found Emily Rose, at many times, more of a made for tv movie.

I think the pacing is perfect, and I think it's what gives the film it's creepy atmosphere. However, I do recognize that the film's pacing isn't as fast as films today, so you kind of have to get into the mindset of a '70s audience member to appreciate it. For the record, I don't find the film scary either. I like it because I find it to be intelligent and substantive.

Sinderella and the Golden Bra (1964), but as an anime movie with better songs and more boobs.
More seriously, I'd like to see the lost musical film Gold Diggers of Broadway (1929) remade (assuming the script survives). Fragments survive of the film, so it should be possible to make a fairly accurate recreation of the film (and maybe use computer software to recreate the look of two-strip-technicolor).
I'd like to see the lost TV movie Farewell to the Pegasus (1947) remade, assuming the script still survives (sometimes the script survives even when the program itself is lost).
In fact, I'd love to see various lost films and shows re-done. In many cases the scripts survive.

The Running Man needs a new/better adaptation. The book would make an excellent, dark, action film. Instead they opted to ignore every interesting aspect of the story and make a mediocre camp Arnie vehicle.

The Beach. Make it more like the book, make the main character British like in the book, drop this "Daffy" talk and call him "Mr Duck", and most importantly, ADD JED. Failing that, make it a mini-series. Actually, a mini-series would probably be a better idea.
