which would you recommend? what if you have 15 really good authors whom you love? wouldnt it make sense to reread the work of one or two of them every year? instead of trying to discover new authors every year?

If you like, I don't think there's a hard and fast rule to this. Personally, I rarely re-read books, largely because I keep finding more books that look interesting. There's a lot of stuff out there, and I've only got one life. So far.

I'd say do both. I re-read my favorites but still make time to find new stories.

Me three. I rarely re-read books because "so many books, so little time". If I didn't have to read professional materials, I might re-read more. As it is, I try to balance serious and frilly, YA and adult, fiction and non.

Generally I read new books. On occasion I'll re-read a particular book I loved.

I don’t have any books that I read over and over again; but there are a number that I have given a second read after many years - mostly stuff that I read in school that I might not have gotten everything out of the first time and I feel deserve a fresh take.

This applies to restaurants as well. Try something new or stick to what you know you like? I have this problem all the time at Cheesecake Factory.

if you're lonely, would you try to find new friends or try to hook up with old ones?

I revisit Sherlock Holmes quite often. I have read everything Doyle ever wrote about Holmes and most of his other writings but I can read SH over and over. One day I would like to revisit my favorite novel, War and Peace. I read that one in a month at a rate of 50 pages a day.

If it has to be one or the other, I'd try to commit the ones I adore to memory and keep reading new books.

I used to reread a lot of my favorites but I'm trying to branch out of my comfort zone now.

about half of my reading is rereading. if I had to do one or the other I would stick with rereading because there are never going to be any new books I like as much as the ones I've been rereading for decades.
