Rumor: Penguin May Be The Villain Of The Batman Or Birds Of Prey
Penguin looks to have a future in Warner Bros.' DC universe as the potential villain of either The Batman or Birds of Prey. There have been plenty of shakeups along the way as WB attempted to start a cinematic universe all their own. The biggest question that DC has faced over the last year or so has been the status of Ben Affleck. He stepped down as director and writer of The Batman and rumors have shown a pattern of indecision when it comes to his future as Batman. This hasn't just held up Matt Reeves' film but likely all Batman-related projects too. However, WB isn't going to just let Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn waste away and have made Birds of Prey one of their focuses. The project now has a director in Cathy Yan and will feature Harley, Batgirl, and more female DC characters prominently. But unless they were all going to fight each other, they'll need a villain. It may just be Penguin, if Reeves doesn't use him first. Variety reporter Justin Kroll shared some news on Penguin's DC future on Twitter today. Even he says to take the following information with a grain of salt considering how much change the DC universe experiences, but it looks like Penguin is coming sooner rather than later. According to his sources, Reeves may have settled on Penguin as the main villain for The Batman, but it isn't finalized as he's still working on the script. If Reeves does go in another direction, though, one of the scripts for Birds of Prey features Penguin as the villain. Either way, Oswald Cobblepot's return to the big screen looks to be happening. If Reeves does in fact choose Penguin to be the villain of The Batman, it will mark the character's first big screen appearance since Danny DeVito played him in Batman Returns. It also shows a very different take than what Affleck was imagining when he was in charge. Initially, Affleck wanted Batman to battle Deathstroke, who is a physical and tactical equal. Penguin doesn't present the same challenge physically for the Dark Knight however, but it does point to a crime-centric story. Should Reeves ultimately change his mind, Penguin could fit in well with Birds of Prey. It would be a bit surprising for the movie to not feature a female villain too, but also raises questions over how the film and team will be structured. Is Penguin a common enemy that brings Harley and Batgirl and their friends together? Or, could he be the film's MacGuffin and be the source of conflict between the heroines? Interestingly enough, Birds of Prey could force Reeves' hand in deciding as it is likely to begin production before his Batman. Whatever fate Penguin ultimately gets, it is far too early to know definitively. Kroll notes that the DC universe is constantly changing, so Penguin could be in the plans today and then not have a future at all by next week. If he does make his return, Josh Gad looked to be expressing interest in the role over the past year, so maybe this has been the plan all along. Hopefully Penguin's future introduction will be finalized soon for either film. screenrant.com/batman-birds-prey-penguin-movie-villain/ Thanks for sharing Hardball. I hadn't seen that article but I am glad to hear they are going to use the Penguin in one of the movies 'cause I don't think we have really had a version on screen that has done the character justice outside of animation and video games. Some people might disagree with me over this but I wasn't a fan of Danny DeVito's version of the Penguin in 'Batman Returns' and I think Danny DeVito was a choice for the role and could have been a great Penguin but the whole freaky thing with flippers for hands was nothing like the Penguin in most comic books. I personally think the best version of the Penguin has been the version in the 'Arkham' video games played by Nolan North and the Penguin is best when he is played as a short, fat, balding angry mob boss.
I like what I am hearing about BOP so far, and it's good to see WB doing an all-female superhero R rated flick and taking a risk. I'm more interested in this than Suicide Squad 2 actually. I just find it odd that both BOP and Batman have the same villain in their early drafts. I also don't like Penguin in Batman Returns, actually I don't care much for that movie at all except for Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. I am also looking forward to seeing Huntress and Black Canary in BOP. I like Arrow's version of Huntress, and also Sarah as BC. And if Penguin will be the villain in BOP the Batman film should go with Deathstroke.

Ok so I was wondering how it is possible that Penguin could be the villain in both BOP and the Batman. The latest rumor is that Penguin, if he does appear in Batman, will be one of, not the main villain. He may be in it for just a few scenes and appear like a mastermind of some sort.

I am also looking forward to seeing Huntress and Black Canary in BOP. I like Arrow's version of Huntress, and also Sarah as BC. And if Penguin will be the villain in BOP the Batman film should go with Deathstroke. I do too. Out of all the upcoming superhero movies 'Birds of Prey' is the one I am waiting to see the most and one thing I will praise Warner Bros for is they are actually listening to their fans and making more female lead movies. 'Birds of Prey' is the biggest selling female team comic book series of all time and is one of the biggest selling female comic book series of all time period. I have been waiting for ages for a 'Birds of Prey' movie and after that awful TV show that was nothing like the comic books I am hoping they get it right this time but I have more faith in this movie 'cause it is being made by somebody who is a fan of the 'Birds of Prey' comic books and not somebody who has never read them like the TV show was. I don't know if you saw the old TV show but it was very much hated by fans and writers alike. Chuck Dixon (the creator of 'Birds of Prey') and Gail Simone both tore strips out of it and even Dina Meyer who played Barbara Gordon in it put shit on it too and said she was excited about getting the role when she read the comics and thought it was going to be like a superhero version of 'Charlie's Angels' but it was nothing like she thought it would be. Instead of making it a team series they made it into a 'Batman' sequel series with the Earth 2 version of the Huntress who was Batman's daughter taking over his spot and they had Barbara and Dinah (who wasn't even Black Canary in it, by the way) in a Mother/ Daughter type of relationship instead of being best friends the same age who formed the team together. It also had Harley Quinn and Lady Shiva in it and they were nothing like they are in the comic books either - Lady Shiva wore a mask and was a friend of Barbara and they didn't know each other's identities.
This movie can correct the mistakes of the awful TV show by giving us a proper adaption of the 'Birds of Prey' that us fans have been waiting for and this will make the very first time we have had Barbara Gordon/ Batgirl, Black Canary and the Huntress in a movie. For WB to succeed with the DCEU they need to take more risks and start adapting their biggest selling comic books in the Rebirth and the New 52. My Brother In Law was saying to me the other day about how far DC are behind with Marvel adapting their superheroes and apart from female superheroes like Ms Marvel (Carol Danvers), Spider Woman, SpiderGwen, She Hulk, and Shanna the She Devil etc Marvel have used the majority of their biggest selling superheroes like Spider-Man, X Men, Captain America, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Ant Man, Wasp, Thor, The Punisher, Doctor Strange, Howard the Duck, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Men In Black and Blade in movies while DC haven't even used a quarter of theirs. We're only getting movies like 'Birds of Prey', 'Batgirl', 'Nightwing', 'The Flash', 'Aquaman', 'Shazam' and 'Cyborg' now. Hopefully they add more and confirm the rumoured 'Teen Titans' movie along with more titles like Supergirl, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Batwoman, Raven: Daughter of Darkness, Doctor Fate, Zatanna, Legion of Superheroes, Bombshells, Blue Beetle, Hellblazer (Constantine), Deathstroke, Catwoman, Gen 13, Wildcats, Justice Society of America etc.

I'm Hoping for a quadfecta and we get Ivy too. I think Poison Ivy will definitely be in the movie and we will get the Harley Quinn/ Poison Ivy relationship on screen for the first time but it is likely Poison Ivy will turn out to be a villain or will be the main villain at the end instead of a member. Her powers make her a big threat as a villain.

I am looking forward to hearing about this year's SDCC and hopefully DC reveal the actresses for 'Birds of Prey' and the full line up of members who are going to appear in the movie, the actress who is going to play Batwoman in the 'Arrowverse' and they confirm the 'Teen Titans' movie and announce more movies. I think if the Penguin appears in 'The Batman' or 'Birds of Prey' he will only be one of the villains and not the only one. The 'Birds of Prey' could easily beat the Penguin and Batman could too so they will most likely have him working with other villains or other villains working for him. It would be fun if they had Solomon Grundy working for him and he set him loose on Batman like he did in 'Arkham City.' Having Solomon Grundy working for Penguin would make him a huge threat.

Since the 'Batgirl' and 'Birds of Prey' movies were announced Jane Levy has been a favourite among fans to play Barbara Gordon/Batgirl and the actress recently spoke out about playing the role and said she is down. This doesn't mean it is official but with the recent reports stating 'Birds of Prey' could be the next DCEU movie after 'Wonder Woman 2' we can all expect to get some casting news very soon for the roles of Batgirl and others. @deblovesbeccy that'd be solid casting if it's the case. She is an interesting choice for sure and far better than Lindsay Lohan who I heard is still trying to get the role and let's hope Warner Bros listen to her offer and the fans like New Line Cinema (which is owned by Warner Bros) recently did when they cast Jessica Chastain as an adult, Beverly in the upcoming sequel of Stephen King's 'It.' I wouldn't mind seeing Teresa Palmer play Batgirl if she dyed her hair red and I think Rachel Nichols could have been a good choice but they probably see her as being too old now. I would love to see Yvonne Strahovski as Black Canary and think she is the perfect choice for the role. Yvonne is a highly skilled martial artist in real life like the Black Canary is supposed to be in the comic books and she did all of her own stunts in 'Chuck' but rarely gets a chance to show off her martial art skills in movies or TV shows anymore which is disappointing. Here is a picture a fan has made of Jane as Batgirl. Fan Art Imagines Jane Levy As Arkham Knight-Inspired Batgirlwegotthiscovered.com/movies/fan-art-imagines-jane-levy-arkham-knightinspired-batgirl/

There has been a lot of news about the upcoming 'Birds of Prey' movie lately and it is currently one of the most talked about upcoming movies in the DCEU, if not the most talked about and with the way they are talking I would say it is definitely coming out after 'Wonder Woman 2' and we will find out some more about it at SDCC. It appears we have some new updates about Batgirl and Birds of Prey. Apparently Barbara Gordon won't be in 'Birds of Prey' but will still be the main star of the 'Batgirl' movie and they are looking for a Kristen Stewart type for the role. And this is how Teresa Palmer looks with red hair...

Funnily enough the least appealing quality of Teresa Palmer is that she reminds me of Kristen Stewart.
