Just saw today, Quinto/etc. are saying there are no concrete plans for TREK4. This does not make me a happy Trekkie.

Not cancelled, so much as 'terribly uncertain'. I think the word Quinto used was 'limbo', so there is still hope. Plus, the cast all seem keen to do it.

Audiences are losing interest in the reboot series. Each one does poorer than the last. Personally, I enjoyed Beyond much more than Into Darkness (which was ruined by Cumberbatch actually turning out to be Khan, IMO). At least Beyond covered new ground.
But whats missing from Star Trek is what Star Wars has loads of: A sense of saga, destiny, a continuing over-arching story. Something greater than a five year journey. Each movie feels like just an individual episode. That works well for TV (which is where Star Trek clearly shines), but in movies I think a franchise needs something grander.
Each movie should be a milestone in the story of the lives of these characters we love, not just any old adventure. If the continuing movies can achieve that then I think we can still have a great franchise, but as of now, we only have an OK franchise.
Some big event that shakes up the franchise and gives it direction for the next few movies is what the franchise needs. For example: What if the Federation entered into a state of civil war... and each crewmember of the Enterprise had different allegiances because of it... and the Klingons and Romulans took advantage of the Federations weakened state to wage all out war and invasion on them... Think big!

Would definitely welcome a 4th Star Trek film . Hopefully if it happens, they market it much better than Beyond though.

I like STB up until the baddies got destroyed by the Beastie Boys. No offence 2 those fine Jewish minstrels.

I enjoyed the series overall, but the last movie was my least favorite. It was just okay. They need to get away from the humanoid bad guys who want revenge at all costs. Time for a new type of villain. Perhaps they could base the 4th film in this rebooted franchise on the original series episode City On The Edge Of Forever.

I can't say that I remember many of the episodes by name. What was it about?

That was the one where Bones goes mad from an accidental injection of a stimulant and jumps back to the 1930s and changes history. Then, Spock and Kirk have to go back and set things right even though it means the loss of the woman Kirk falls in love with.
